Pretty good day
Had a pretty good day so far today. On my way into town this morning I called Ember and got voice-mail but told her if she wasn’t at work or school and she got the message soon enough I’d love to take her to breakfast. After I left that message I called Critter and kind of woke her up. K had just gotten up though, so it wasn’t too bad that I called. I told her I was going in to town and if she wanted to come with I’d stop by and wait on them to get ready and she said OK.
After everyone got ready we went off to the Waffle House. It was good. We talked about random things that came up. Once again my hash browns got screwed up. Scattered, smothered, covered, capped, how hard is that? After the WaHo we went off to the Wal-Mart and wandered around for a long time. I was looking for some things to get prices on for my kitchen, and she actually did some shopping. I managed to get out of there only spending five dollars. She spent rather more than that. A lot more than that actually.
We went back to her place and unloaded the supplies and then she packed up clothes for the kids to take to their grandmother’s house for the weekend. I moved the car seat back to her car (I may have to buy one for my truck if we keep hanging out like this) and then she and K were off to pick up D and B and I came on home.
I’m having dinner with my parents tonight at Ruby Tuesday’s. They are also bringing down some stuff for me like a lamp and some speakers.
I might be doing something with Ember later tonight too. She wanted to know if I was working and I told her all I had planned was dinner with the parents but I haven’t heard back from her.
Critter and I talked about some stuff on the way home. About K’s daddy and how he treated her, about how she deserved to be treated, etc. I told her that B & K didn’t need to grow up thinking it was OK that their boyfriends or husbands hit them when they did something he didn’t like. I told her I didn’t want D to think it was OK to hit his girlfriend or wife when she ticked him off. I told her that even if we didn’t end up together again she deserved someone who treated her at least as well as I treated her because that’s the way she deserved to be treated.
K’s dad tried really hard for Mother’s Day though. He took K out and she picked out a card and he put a pencil in her hand and put his hand around hers to “help” her sign the card (she’s two and a half) and he proceeded to spell her name wrong. Again. She’s not even mine and I got it right the first time. Sometimes I really wonder about him.
I really need to spend some time with Ember. We’ve been drifting apart, and I really don’t like it. I’m stuck on overnights most of the week and she works full time and goes to school full time so it’s really hard to get together, but still. Even Critter mentioned something today about how Ember and I didn’t seem as close as we used to be, but she didn’t want to say anything earlier.
If Critter wants to call me I can tell her FIRST HAND what it’s like to grow up in a home where domestic abuse occurs. No matter how old you are you never “get over it” you never get philosophocal about it. The pain and the damage is there to stay. My Dad beat the crap out of my Mom in front of us for YEARS and that is not something I would ever wish on anther child.

It is hard to keep close friendships when your schedules are shit, but don’t give up.
