Didn’t do a whole lot of anything today. I did have dinner with my parents at the local sushi place. My dad dropped off some electronics he had no more use for (he does that occasionally) and in the boxes I found a brand-new never opened Magellan Maestro 3225 GPS system. He told me mom doesn’t know he bought it so not to say anything. I’m not sure if he bought it specifically for me or if it was one of those things where he got a really good deal and couldn’t pass it up (he already has a Garmin unit in his truck). It does everything I want it to do (stores addresses, re-calculates on the fly, basic GPS location info) and add to that it was FREE! Yay me!
I talked to Critter a little bit today. Some of it was actual talking and some of it was text messages. I may have something to do when Ember is out of town next week but it’s not a sure thing yet.
Ember got to be the bunny at work today. It seemed like she enjoyed it, but I didn’t actually get to see her since I never made it into town until dinner with the parents, and after dinner I was (understandably) distracted installing and programming my new toy. Speaking of new toys, there was also another AirPort Extreme (b/g version) in the boxes along with another 25ft Cat 5e cable so now I have seamless wireless network coverage throughout my apartment, and for AmandaS to have Internet access all she has to do is buy a computer with a wireless card in it. She should have coverage in her place now, but if the walls are attenuating the signal too much I can always crank up the output; the transmitters are only at ten percent right now.
With the intentionally limited range, WPA2 encryption, and the network itself in stealth mode (you have to know the exact case-sensitive name to even try to log in, it isn’t beaconing) I think I’m still pretty secure. Still, I do my banking on my desktop which is hard-wired to the router, just in case.
Happy Easter everyone!
