Another call

I have had quite a lull in interviews, since the last one I had after my hair was done (mid October)

My friends at Stanford and I have been trying to figure out just what the heck is going on, and we’re all of the impression that there is a hiring freeze in the works, at least in some schools that may not have funding or not as much money as others

And that’s fair, I mean, its not the best of times to be looking for a job

And I have literally firehosed the Bay Area with my resume, and the only place that has bit has been Stanford

I have come to accept this place and this ridiculous thing they call a job and I have tried to settle into a routine here.  Every day as I head to the bathroom for the first time, I remember to bring the dispenser key so that I can be assured of my job security as the toilet paper roll dispenser monitor (I did walk up to Clark and say, all kidding about job security aside?  Can you please sit down with Roberto and physically SHOW HIM how to put the toilet paper into them the right way?!?

I continue to send resumes out to just about every one, in the hopes that something will stick (you know, if you throw enough shit at the wall, eventually something will stick?).  As I drive around this fine Bay Area, I remember what the different buildings say, log on to the ole interweb thingy and do some research about those companies, then send my resume to them

This morning, I looked up Netflix, as they have a HUGE office building in Los Gatos, and I am actually quite pleased with myself that I remembered that, since I saw it at 1:00 am on my way home from a late night meeting with someone that I won’t be mentioning much (don’t ask, its complicated)

And I also sent my resume to Tesla…yup, that of electric sports cars…brand new manufacturing facility being built right up the street from me (Its off the main expressway that I take from peninsula to east bay every day)

And I continue to send resumes to Stanford, because that’s where I really want to go.  I send out others to make sure I am not putting all my eggs in one basket

So it was with some sort of premonition that I was sitting here at my desk, humming what is my ring tone (I thought it was playing on my iTunes, but it wasn’t) when my phone actually rung, with said ringtone

It was Stanford calling, from a position I applied for well over a month ago, asking me my availability for an interview.  Always aware of what’s going on here, I made it for next week during the lunch time

I am hoping this is the start of yet another few months of interviewing…however this time, I want all that work to come to fruition with a job offer

I dream of training someone new the vagaries of proper toilet paper dispensing

“I dream of training someone new the vagaries of proper toilet paper dispensing.” And after that ten seconds is done…? 🙂 Those Teslas are neat! I wonder if they’ll make an electric pickup truck? RYN: Recent elections have been interesting/dismaying/disgusting, but this year things have been a little different. I hope it’s a sign of things to come.

RYN: I will look for you!

if you’re looking for a job at Stanford…. you should know the expression (as you left on CN’s diary) is living vicariously, not “precariously.” Look it up. And good luck!

(left for me privately) I know the expression…and I meant what I said…her life is quite precarious isn’t, and doesn’t that word mean exposed to danger? Nice try though
