bits and bobs
So I thought I’d update since it’s been awhile.
Everything is still going well on the alternative certification front. My class is onto the last book to study and I’m excited to have the online coursework over with in a week. I got an email the other day about a school district that is having a job fair in April. I really like the district but unfortunately, it’s one of my accounts. If they knew that I was suddenly applying for an art position, I don’t know how they would feel about sticking with my yearbook company. It sucks because my adviser at the main high school is an art teacher and is such a sweet person. She even said that they’re looking for an art teacher. I don’t know if this would be a good idea. I’m just afraid someone might say something and I could lose my current job. Maybe I’ll take a gamble and see what happens. Or, maybe not…
I judged a couple of yearbooks last week and I really liked it. I’ve always wanted to do that. The other Houston rep went with me to judge too. We are kinda supposed to do things together to make ourselves known as the "Houston Team", but she’s a little annoying. She doesn’t annoy me straight away, but when you spend an hour with her, you want to scream. She’s a little out of the loop. Pretty country, but her husband’s family has tons of money, so it’s kind of odd, because they’re very back-woodsy wealthy country people. She went to Texas A & M, (I cannot stand that school for several reasons, and if you went there, I’m sorry, I don’t mean to offend you), and everywhere she goes, she makes a connection with other back-woodsy people that bleed maroon and white (A&M colors). Her license plate on her maroon Tahoe reads 1PrdAg (one proud Ag (or Aggie). She’s 33 but dresses like she’s about 50. She’s extremely petite and everytime I see her I want to give her a makeover. She has curly hair and has a haircut straight out of the 80s. Her voice grates on you in about 5 seconds. And when she laughs, she damn near makes you jump out of your chair b/c it’s so startling and loud.
I’m making her out to sound horrible, but she’s not. She’s in desperate need of an all-over makeover. So when she and I were judging these books, she totally overthought the rubric and asked me questions constantly that didn’t take much thought. Her spelling was TERRIBLE. She constantly asked me how to spell certain words. I’m not the best speller in the world, but shit! I sound like a horrible person. Anyway, when it was over, I went home to study. I have an art exam that I’m taking next weekend. I’ve studied pretty well so far, but this upcoming week is where I really need to push myself. I feel confident about the test, so I’m thinking all will be well when I take it. I’m doing the bare-minimum of work for my current job. Just enough to not get fired.
Matt’s company played soccer last Wednesday against Exxon-Mobile. I was incredibly happy to see him mix amongst other guys and play soccer. Matt lives and breathes the sport, so to mix him up with other people who feel the same way is awesome. He played well, and in the end they tied 1-1. I was sitting in the stands and it was about 48 degrees. That’s cold for a Houstonian like me 😛 I’m so excited to watch the rest of the games every Wednesday.
My cooking is still going strong! I made a very healthy chicken dish with sundried tomatoes and capers. I made some brown rice to go with it. Matt gobbled it up 🙂 I am now combing the web for healthy chicken dishes in my spare time. What’s going on with me?!
Matt flew to Lubbock to recruit students at the Texas Tech Job Fair. This is where I went to school. I really wanted to go with him, but he would’ve been at the Job Fair the whole day. He had a good time, met a lot of students that are Houstonians that are looking to come back after they graduate. I was happy to hear that the caliber of the students was good in his eyes.
My mom bought a car yesterday. A Nissan Murano. Matt and I are going to go over in a little bit for a drive around the block. I really liked those vehicles when I worked at Enterprise. Every customer who returned the car said they really enjoyed driving it. She wanted something sporty that was quick at the same time. I was trying to get her to buy a Infinity FX (I think?) but it was waaay too expensive. My brother finished his finals at Arizona State and is home until Tuesday. We all went out to eat at PF Changs last night. I hope to hang out with him more before he goes back to school.
Well I’d better get going and get ready to visit mom… adios!
i’m glad things continue to go well with school. that’s a hard balancing act, i’m sure, since you’re already involved with schools. i’d be a little concerned about people saying something, too, but chances are they probably won’t. maybe you could come up with a good excuse for being there, like say you’re trying to make connections with the schools in the district? i don’t know. when will you be finished with the program and ready to start looking for jobs seriously?

That’s a toughie, re: the current job and possible job opening situation. I don’t want to tell you to go one way for fear it may backfire, so how bout I just wish you luck? 😉 ryn: that chicken dish sounds so good! I will definitely try it sometime and let you know my results. I’ve got a GREAT one–Chicken with Rosemary, Apples, and Onions–slow cooker dish–to die for 🙂

girl, going to a job fair doesnt imply anything at ALL. Hell, you can say you are scoping out jobs for a friend who lives in the area but is away on vacation! And you cant lose your job by going. Seriously. GO FOR IT!
