Is summer really over?

I am not sure where the summer went to, and I’m pretty sure that I didn’t really accomplish everything that I wanted to, but nothing can change the fact that I head back to work next week.  I am kind of anxious to get the school year started so that I can learn the reigns of second grade and begin doing sub plans for my maternity leave.  On the other hand, I am never ready to see summer come to an end.  I know that next summer will be wonderful because we’ll have a little one to share it with, but yet now I know that our last summer together just as husband and wife is over.  That is kind of sad in certain ways…

I have been working in my classroom quite a bit the last few weeks, and this week I have tried to stay away as much as possible.  I have the room looking all ready.  All that I have left to do are the little things that involve putting the kids’ names on different things around the room.  I have a class list, but I don’t want to do too much until I think it’s pretty well set in stone and won’t be changing before the first day of school.  I have books and things here at home so that hopefully over the weekend I’ll tweak some things for lesson plans and feel somewhat ready to go for the first week and a half.

Tomorrow is my final day at home before starting inservice on Monday.  I had all kinds of plans to get things we have for the baby washed and put away and things like that, but I’m not sure how much I’ll get done now.  I was walking out to the mailbox today and rolled my foot on the cement.  It instantly got really big and has been hurting really bad.  I did call into the doctor and go in this afternoon.  He x-rayed it and didn’t find any breaks.  He did say, though, that if it’s fractured that won’t show up right now with the swelling.  I can barely walk, but I’m hoping and praying that it gets much better tomorrow.  I want and need to get some things done.  Plus, I typically go around to all of my kids’ houses to meet them and introduce myself.  I really don’t want to do that if I have to hobble to get to the door.  Here would be their new teacher…largely pregnant AND can’t walk!  I’m not sure some of the parents would be very impressed.

On a happy note, last Saturday was my baby shower.  It was so much fun, and the girls did a really good job putting it on!  We got a lot of really neat things that we needed and registered for, so we shouldn’t have too terribly much to buy Labor Day weekend when we head back to Colorado Springs to do our final shopping.  We got some neutral clothes but not a lot since we don’t know whether we’re having a boy or girl.  We got lots of blankets and diapers and things like that.  I’ll have to get my pictures uploaded and on here to share with you all.  It was just a really good weekend with lots of family around – I loved it!  Plus my brother’s kids stayed with us Sunday night and we baby-sat them Monday before taking them home.  They had never got to spend the night with us, so that was fun!

We still haven’t heard anything on our baby furniture.  We’re assuming the bed still isn’t supposed to arrive until mid-September.  So, we are trying to do as much with the nursery as possible without the bed being set up.  Teaching us patience, right?!?

Well, I need to get a few things done tonight and I am moving slowly!  I have been reading everyone but just haven’t been spending enough time on here to note.  I’m still here — I promise!!  😉
