Trips, Babies, and Work

It has been a while since I’ve updated!  Well, I did survive P/T Conferences.  I always do enjoy doing them because it allows me a chance to sit down and visit with parents.  I always feel better once I ‘ve been able to explain some things that I am seeing in class, and I always love to hear what they have to say.  There were a few students that I was very shocked to hear what their parents had to say.  One set of parents said every year their kid has despised school and has never wanted to go.  They said it has gotten better this year (which is probably because of a combination of things).  I never would’ve guessed that because he is a fantastic student.  He works hard, he gets his work done, he stays on task, he behaves really well.  I was just amazed when they said that!  All conferences went well, which I prayed for.  I don’t think anyone left feeling frustrated, and I didn’t either.  That’s always a good thing!

Today we had a Math conference held in our district, but districts from across the state attended.  I actually went out on a limb and presented my first session!  It was a lot of fun, and I think it went really well.  I did hear some positive feedback, and that’s the type of thing that I just thrive on.  I could really see myself doing more of that thing later on in my educational career.  It was kind of a rush, and I am the overly-organized type that obsessives enough to make it work.  hehehe  It is nice to have that over with and one more thing cleaned off of my plate!  My brother was able to come to town for the conference, so it was an added bonus to get to see him.  It made me realize how much I miss him.  We haven’t had any brother / sister time in a LONG time!  I think that’s what happens when you get married and have kids.

This past weekend we snuck away with the in-laws to go and visit hubby’s sister.  Trent’s nephew is playing football, so we were able to catch one of his games.  It is so hard to believe that he’s old enough to play football!  It’s like little league (which I think there are pros and cons to having them start so early) and is in the 3rd grade.  He seems to love it, and his team did really well.  It was kind of fun to watch!  We also took in some other family time by going to do the dog races and then out to eat.  I just really enjoy getting away and being able to leave my work and school work behind for a day or two.  I really need to do that more often!

My best friend Rachel had her baby last Wednesday!  She called me as I got to work at 7 am that morning and said she was in labor and was headed to the hospital!  I was so excited to hear the news!  I bet I checked my phone a hundred times throughout the day.  hehehe  She had a healthy little boy, Alexander Shane, and they are both doing wonderfully.  She also lives in KC, so Trent and I managed to sneak away to go see them this past weekend.  I was a baby hog and held Alex for well over an hour, but he was just so tiny and precious!  I can’t wait until Trent and I are able to hold a baby of our own, but that’ll come in God’s time.  I am so happy for Rachel that all went well with the delivery because I know she was very nervous, and it was great to see her again and the "Mom glow" that she has now!

This week is going to be a short one in school since we had a conference today.  That’ll be kind of nice because I know the kids sometimes need a break as well as me.  Trent and I are working to get the house cleaned tonight because it was neglected a bit with me being gone most evenings last week.  I have been working hard on my homework and hope to remain caught up on that.  Hopefully tomorrow night will be laundry and homework since the hubby bowls.  That gives me a chance to get a few things done around here.

I hope that everyone else had an enjoyable weekend!  Happy Monday to you all, and thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers as I went through conferences last week.

RYN: We (teachers – classified staff, like my husband, are different) get at least one day off every month. Our school year is 180 days. We are off Labor Day, 2 days for October Break, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving (Thur/Fri), Winter Break (2 weeks), MLK day, President’s Day, Spring Break and April Break (Good Friday). Jason gets most of those days off too, except for the long ones.

I’m glad everything school wise went well and is continuing to move in the right direction. How nice to be able to get away for a few days! My nephew [who is 10] does the football thing too…here we call it rocket football I think? Ashley
