It’s be a full week!

This past week was a pretty full one, it seems.  Last weekend was my nephew’s first birthday, so we had his birthday party.  He is such a cutie — talk about getting baby fever while being around him!    Then Sunday we had my cousin’s birthday party, and my brother and his family were around for that.  Sunday night Trent’s nephew got into town, so we stopped and saw him at about 10 o’clock when his parents got home from picking him up.

Trent worked with his dad most of the week on their basement.  They are trying to get it done because the in-laws have a lot of company coming in the next two weeks for the local county fair and to just visit.  So there were many evenings that I’d catch a ride over to another town with my dad so that I could meet up with the hubby at the in-laws for supper.  It’s always nice to not have to cook!

Getting wisdom teeth pulled went fairly well for Trent Tuesday.  He was in and out within 30 minutes, which I thought was awesome.  He did very well and did sleep for a while Tuesday afternoon.  He has taken it a little easier (trying to not run and not lift as much weight as he normally would when helping his dad) to allow him time to heal. He hasn’t been in too much pain.  The lower one has been a little more achy, but that’s normal.  We’re just both glad that it’s over with — no more wisdom for the two of us!!

Tuesday night I got a wild a crazy idea to take a road trip with my mom.  There is a friend of mine that had a baby a while back, and I hadn’t made it to see her yet.  This was her last week on maternity leave, so I know I needed to go see her.  It was quite a drive, though, so I asked my mom if she wanted to hop in and then drive on to Wichita to see one of her cousins and do some shopping.  She, as always, was up for the mother-daughter adventure.  We left early Wednesday morning, went and visited my friend and her baby, and then headed to Wichita.  We spent Wednesday evening with my mom’s cousin catching up and just visiting.  It was a good time!  Then Mom and I got a hotel room for the night and just relaxed.  I love sitting up late and talking to my mom while watching TV.  It was so nice to have a trip with just us girls!  Thursday morning we took our time getting up and around and then went shopping.  I did some shopping for a friend of mine who is expecting a baby boy due in October.  I am hosting her baby shower in September, so I wanted to get a jump start on some gifts and things I’ll need for the shower.  Mom and I also went to the mall where we bought nothing but some clothes for our guys.  Mom and I had so much fun playing goofy games in the car on the way to and from Wichita.  I love it that my mom and I can take these kind of trips together because we both really enjoy them.  I know that these are the times I will be very thankful for years down the road… My dad is wanting to go on vacation here in a few weeks because my parents never really go anywhere.  He would like us all to go (Trent and I & my brother’s family), but he’s not sure he’ll be able to convince my brother and his wife to go along.  I told them last night that Trent and I would love to go — we’re always up for outings with the family!  I am really excited because it has been years since my family has really traveled together and done a whole vacation thing.

Yesterday some friends of mine from college came by the house and we were able to visit.  I hadn’t seen one of their babies, either, which was born in April.  She is such a cutie!  It was kind of fun to have little ones running around the house and keeping things lively!  It was also nice to sit and visit with some old friends.  They both had worked in the same district as me a year ago but both had different jobs this past year.  So, we always have school gossip to catch up on!

Today we have Trent’s nephew because the in-laws went to Denver to pick up one of the mother-in-laws’ cousins.  She is coming to stay with them for two weeks.  I’ve never met the lady, and I guess it has been over 25 years since she’s been to Kansas.  I am looking forward to meeting her and getting to know her in the upcoming weeks.  My mother-in-law has been so excited to see her, so I am glad that she is able to come.  They are going to be stopping by here in a bit on their way through to pick up the nephew.  So today I have been a good, domesticated woman and cooked two meals.  I have also kept the house picked up and clean so that it’s not messy when guests arrive tonight.  I also made a cake so that we can all have dessert together tonight when they get here.  I love to do that sort of thing!

Tomorrow will be another busy day.  We’ll get up, go to church, and then spend more time with family.  There is an After Harvest Fest in the town where my parents live, so we’re going to head there tomorrow evening.  They have a greased pig contest (yes, I know many of you are probably thinking that I must live in Hickville, USA), and the nephew is very excited to participate in that again.  It should be fun, plus they have fireworks to end the festivities tomorrow night!

Well, I better get going.  The company should be here within the next hour, and I need to get changed and finish my dessert!  Happy weekend to everyone!
