I Do Believe that the Clock is Ticking

Someone very wise once said that the most significant creation we are responsible for in a lifetime is that of our own identity.

With this understanding, I realise the importance of finding and sticking to a passion, a hobby, an interest, and developing it through the growth of knowledge, and through experience and networking.

If anything, my problem is that I simply cannot choose. The clock is ticking, and I still have not chosen a subject for my ‘piece’.

Perhaps I would like to be a kind, beautiful lawyer who’s deep spiritual, practices yoga regularly and jogs daily.

Perhaps I would like to take up tai kwon do, jiu jitzu, MMA.

Perhaps I would like to a successful fashion model and ambassador for the Australian Cancer Council, as I manage/own specialist medical practices around Australia and go on to get a Ba. of Medicine just because.

I’ve found that hobbies come and go. Some you can keep your whole life, but I don’t think it’s bad to let some slip after a while.

Saw you on the front page: All you need to do is to follow your heart. Bookbean is right, hobbies come and go, but a true passion will come to you and never leave. Don’t worry that you haven’t found it yet. I found mine at age 37!

I loved your post on the first page and so here I am! By the way how do you GET on the first page? My hobbies have changed over the years, but for the better, I used to be an avid reader, now I am writing a book! My spirituality has been with me and grown all my life. Good luck with yours! Pick soomething you love and is attainable and go from there.

Some people, like me, get lucky and find their passion at an early age. Mine is history and teaching. For a lot of my friends they haven’t found it, it takes experimentation and trial by error. When you find it, you’ll know. Kind of like love lol. It’s better to try things out and mess up than to settle.

Thinking of your identity as the things you do is a bit shallow. A person is more than a job. Or something they like or dislike. Or the activities they take part in. No, what you do is just a thing and is relatively meaningless. Instead, your identity is why you do what you do. the desires behind the activities. The understanding and control of *that* is what you should be looking for.

It’s a lot more difficult to even get a handle on, though, because they aren’t your thoughts, but rather are what’s behind them. Takes more work to really get at them than most people are willing to give.

For some it’s permanent but for me it changes as the cycle of life changes.I am 52 and still playing around and it’s all good.Keep growing keep trying that’s the fun of it.Lola Falana

Take a camera and take pictures for three days. After that, look at the pictures; really look into the pictures. You will find that your passion or your hobby / project is right there in one of those picture. Perhaps, who knows, you might see it in all the pictures. jai

@MaDBaLL I’ve never been in your position before, but it must be unpleasant to make you lash out unprovoked. I hope in time you heal. I think you can only ever be as high as you have been low, and maybe you can find peace in that now.
