I’m Livid!

Next Monday is the middle school music festival.  The 6th grade participates in this festival.  DJ is in the 6th grade band.  Unknown to me she had signed up to do a trombone solo at the festival.  Well I found out about it last week, and realizing she had not been practicing it (at all) I advised her to drop it.  She is also signed up to sing a solo and of course participate in the band.  So she spoke with her band teacher on Friday and they discussed the fact that she was not comfortable doing the trombone solo due to lack of practice time.  This was all fine.  Solo’s are not mandatory and if she was uncomfortable she did not have to do it.

Well, for her voice solo, she and her voice teacher have been working very hard.  Her voice teacher (this is not school related) was unable to get time off on Monday to go to the festival so enlisted the band teacher to do the piano music for her.  DJ called me at lunchtime today and band teacher told her  she was not comfortable doing the piano music do to lack of practice time so they are scratching her voice solo.

I’m so upset my ears are burning.  Band teacher seems to not like DJ very much, we have gone around with her on other issues already this year.  I’m waiting for a call back from voice teacher to see what we can do to get the voice solo put back on the schedule and find someone to play the piano for her.  Band teacher is not going to take this away from her if I can help it.
