September
September means so many things to me.
MR M and I were married in September. It was a beautiful day under the yellowing cottonwood trees, ravens cawing in the background, family and friends at hand, and the love of my life beside me. This will #15 for us. We went to a wedding last weekend and at the dance they had all of the married people get on the dance floor and started calling out couples, those who had been married less than a year, then 5 years, and on and on. I whispered to MR M, "do you know how long?" He just smiled. Yes he knew exactly. The last couple on the floor had been married 58 years. The bride and groom gave them a present they had picked out for the occassion. I thought that was pretty cool.
School and sports get back into the swing of things, keeping my mind and body busy. DJ started soccer yesterday and has practice almost every night and a game this weekend. JD is playing volleyball again. She is a co captain on the b squad. She is happy. There are so many girls in her class who play and quite a few really good athletes. To be named co captain on the B squad is a pretty big deal for her. She has her first game tonight. I will run to the town 50 miles E afterwork to catch the game. MR M was going to go too, but he is going to stay and get DJ to soccer. School pictures were today, the girls almost missed the bus because they were getting "beautiful"
John’s birthday is in September. Labor day this year. The girls and I were cleaning out a bunch of old papers and moving stuff around in the living room and I came upon two seperate pictures of him. Figured it was his way of stopping by so we could say happy birthday to him. I miss my brother, my friend. I hate the harsh feeling I hold against him sometimes, but I can’t stop them from creeping up on me at times. I guess I am still angry at him for making the decision to screw up so many lives.
September means hunting season in our house. I have gotten out to my tree stand twice already. It has been too hot though. The deer don’t come out until it get too dark. I have seen lots though. One I have nicknamed Bucky. He is the funniest looking deer I have ever seen. He has a very long, skinny neck and only spikes for antlers, but they are like daggers. probably 12 – 14 inches long and come out way low on his forehead, almost over his eyes. Yup, Bucky entertains me each night. MR M and the girls took the dog bird hunting the other morning. They had a grand time. No birds, but lots of fun.
Football starts in September. I love football. And the Panthers went 4-0 in preseason. But I heard this morning that Smith hurt his hamstring.
Yeah, September is a special time of the year for me.
Autumn leaves fall all around
piling deep upon the ground
Pumpkins ripen on the vine
Chockcherries turn to wine
Tomatoes, peppers, onions too
shall I make salsa or stew?
Hot days and cool nights
Soon great northern lights
Starry, starry skies above
shared with those I love
God sent sunsets glow
and gentle breezes blow
I too am a fan of September. Thr random button bounced me to your dairy and I find it great reading. Congrats to you and your husband for the long marriage. Looking forward to reading when you two are the ones who get the gift for 58 years of matrimony. Be well.

you have so much going on….the good thing about where we live is that there are plenty of schools right here in town so for middle school and high school sports, our kids seldom left town…
