My daughter and I
My daughter and I just finished writing my mom’s obituary. I know that sounds weird and she’s not gone yet. But you have to know my daughter and I personally to understand. We prepare in advance for everything.
On mom’s cards we put a picture scene by Thomas Kincade of a bridge with trickling water. Then we took this poem that she had written in the front of her Bible and we placed it on the card.
The Watcher
She always leaned to watch for us,
Anxious if we were late,
In winter by the window,
In summer by the gate.
And though we mocked her tenderly,
Who had such foolish care,
The long way home would seem more safe
Because she waited there.
Her thoughts were all so full of us,
She never could forget!
And so I think that where she is
She must be watching yet.
Waiting till we come home to her,
Anxious if we are late,
Watching from Heaven’s window,
Leaning on Heaven’s gate.
This poem is soooo mom. Today mom made a comment about yesterday. She said: "why did you wake me up? I was talking to my mom. I haven’t talked to her in years." I honestly know that when she was unresponsive, she was probably close to heaven.
Thank you to everyone that has sent prayers and blessings my way through Facebook, email, phone calls and here. My daughter Joy and I are ok. We are snuggling in God’s arms.
I’m sorry about your mother! I liked the poem, too.
