Scary Night
Vacation is over and done with. This past week was my first week back after 7 days vacation. BTW: I only went to Madison, to the Henry Vilas Zoo. The rest of the time I was taking care of mom.
My mobile home looks like a tornado came inside. The outside is covered with debris from winds that were clocked at 91mph last night. I don’t need to mow the grass today, because it’s flatter than a pancake. It was really nasty last night. I’m so glad I was at the Mound. We worked without power from 6:20pm to 10pm. We had Sisters all over the house. Bunked some of them in other parts of the building. And I ended up staying the whole night because of the power lines being down here in Platteville.
Found out this morning that my daughter was driving to Dubuque in the storm last night. She had listened to the radio and it said that the storm warnings were cancelled. So she shut the radio off and got ready to meet a friend in Dubuque at Applebees. While driving she noticed this big black cloud behind her and she didn’t know what to do. So she kept driving to Dubuque because it was clear that way. She made it to Applebees and meet her best friend since kindergarten. During their supper everyone in the restaurant was looking out the windows. Her cell phone rang and Casey said a tornado had been spotted at Georgetown. Well, it was spotted at the Mound too. It took out power poles, trees, buildings, etc.. We had hail the size of marbles. I guess out here where I live the hail was the size of golf balls. I’m safe. My home is fine and so is my car. My family is all safe too.
Saga of mom. She will be moving to the nursing home this coming week. I can’t do it anymore without the help of my siblings. They refuse, so this is my last option. She is willing to go. She didn’t even fight about it. Thank God for prayer. I will be so relieved from the pressure of running and taking her to the doctor and taking blood sugars 4 times a day, making sure the medications are right, setting up meals, dressing, undressing, etc.. She will be going to the home where my dad was and where I worked for 12 yrs.. She knows alot of the residents that live there now. She also knows some of the staff that still is there. I think this will help her to adjust. We also have Sisters there from the Mound that needed more care. After one month, she will be able to come for overnight visits, and day trips. This will be good for mom. I know that she will be getting great care. She deserves this. I love her dearly. But I couldn’t do it anymore. I was killing myself. The addage is: the caregiver must take care of themselves before they can care for others.
Once mom is settled, then I’m going to trade my van off for something smaller and more efficient. I like the Nissan Cube and the Kia Soul. Yeah I know they are different, but so am I. I’m unique. Payments on the both of them are smaller than what I pay now on my minivan. Why should I be forking out $300 per month when I can fork out $137 for the Cube and $125 for the Soul? Plus the two of them get 24-35 mpg and mine gets 19-25 mpg. I won’t need the room in the van anymore, because mom won’t have to leave the nursing home for drs. appt.. Dr. comes to the nursing home. Yeah!!!
nice to “meet” you

If that is her choice, it is a good resolve for both of you. A tornado came through our town a few years ago. It didn’t set down in a farmer’s field. The winds blew over our barbeque and the tent that the children were playing with outside was in shreds. Winds can do a lot of damage. I’m glad that you are all safe.

My Mom took care of my Uncle Joe who recently passed away. People fail to realize what all it takes. Hope all goes well with trading the van. Glad to hear you and your family were safe last night.
