The Second Scariest Day of My Life
So, as the title states, Sunday was the 2nd scariest day of my life. We went sled riding w/ youth group like we do every year. A lot of people were there, Ken, Jimmy, Katie, Sarah, Stef, Tess, Pat, Jon, JR, Chad (& his parents & sister), Craig, Garrett, & whoever else I forgot. Anyway, Craig was being stupid & waiting at the bottom of the hill for other people to go down & then trying to jump on w/ them. He did this a couple times & missed. Well, one time (I think it was JR, Jon, Pat, & Chad, all on the tube) Craig’s standing down there waiting to jump on, only this time, when it hits him, it knocks his legs out from under him, & he flips over the sled & lands on the ice. It looked terrible from the top of the hill where I was standing w/ Katie & Ken. Craig had knocked sum1 else off the tube w/ him who we think was JR. Anyway, Craig starts shaking, like convulsing, almost looking like he’s having a seizure. JR’s bent over him trying to keep him from hurting himself & making sure he’s okay. By this time more people are crowding around & one man yells "Someone call an ambulance!" My heart stopped. I didn’t know what to do. I just gasped, clamped my hand over my mouth & tried to keep from crying. Katie’s trying to comfort me & she runs down the hill w/ me. I really wanted to run down there & hold his hand & tell him he was gonna be okay, but I knew he needed air & space, & there was a police man & another man already helping him. He was conscious when I got down there. He wasn’t sure what had happened, & he didn’t have his glasses on, so he couldn’t really see anyone who wasn’t right next to him. All the guys, Katie, & I were sort of standing in a line off to the side. Ken was on the other side by the cop. Craig kept looking at all of us, but couldn’t really see us. They were asking him if he could move & things like that. He was in a lot of pain. They got him to sit up & asked him questions. He told them his address & that he lived w/ his step dad & his name, etc. He was dizzy, but seemed ok. They moved him out of the way of the sleds & I went back up the hill to be out of the way. A few minutes later they called me back down asking if I could get a hold of his parents. So Craig gave me his cell phone & I called them. At 1st there was no answer & I got kinda worried, but they called me back a minute later. I told his mom what happened & luckily they were near by so they headed straight there. By this time the ambulance had arrived & they took him inside to check him out until his mom got there. Garrett, Jimmy, & Ken were standing w/ me by the ambulance. Garrett was really trying his best to keep my mind off things & make me feel better. Of course, him starting off w/ asking me bout the rest of my weekend wasn’t so great since I’d spent the day before at Katie’s funeral, but after that he did alright.
