flood update
One town in the foothills is being evacuated. they are told to bring one duffel bag with them on the helicopter. All the bridges into the town are out. They are told they will not be able to return until spring of 2014. So pack your life into one duffel bag for then next 6 to 7 months. leave cars, computers, clothes, everything except your pets behind.
on the flat farm lands east of the mountains, ie Weld county, where the rivers met up and over flowed for miles and miles. I now refer to it as Lake Weld. All the crops are flooded, homes are standing in water up to their windows. So you can figure with mold and water damage, its a total loss. farm machines under water, hay to feed animals underwater. the Animals hopefully have been rescued. So where do you put herds of cows and horses? and how do you feed them?
about 20,000 homes lost or damaged, over 1200 people reported missing, unknown yet how many of those are dead. Around50 bridges are gone, roads washed out. Did I mention winter is coming? Rebuilding roads and bridges in the cold … nice trick. But the Governor says that he has already consulted with experts who worked on Katrina floods (the hurricane flooding a few years ago) and he believes things will be less costly due to that. less costly in dollars.
People talk about the Platte river flooding (in Denver) in the 60’s, and the Pouder river in the 70’s, but this is both of those and beyond that . This is massive
Oh and the hundreds of oil wells that have been using the fracking chemicals… flooded, oil spilled into the mix, but the media is not talking about that, not a whisper. Like someone has told them to ignore it… a friend of a friend’s husband who is an oil ex did say that due to the fracking and the flood waters, that in 2 years all of the ground water would be contaminated.
they are saying that the waters are contaminated now and things drenched in the water should be thrown away, unless it can be soaked in bleach. Even then do you want to take a chance with lives of loved ones, using those items?
My daughter and I have to take one of our horse to a vet up by fort Collins for an operation on his legs, it was scheduled some time ago. But word is that the sights are beyond imagination.
the folks in the city of Denver are trying very hard to ignore that exists around them. People at work actually say "I don’t want to know". I guess that is a form of trauma, an reaction of avoidance. If I can ignore it, it will go away. the sun will come out and my world will be fine. but the lives of thousands of people around Denver are destroyed and need rebuilding.
So prayer or positive thoughts or what every positive thoughts you have–send to them.
Life will go on, folks will rebuild. It will take a while, but at some point this will just be a memory, with a few landscape changes to remind us of it. or so we hope.
and those are my morning thoughts today…
