government rich vs pay check poor

the following was sent to me in email, I thought it an interesting question and with a good idea at the end. For those of you that live in America, please consider this:

No one has been able to explain to me why young men and women serve in the U.S. Military for 20 years, risking their lives protecting freedom, and only get 50% of their pay. While Politicians hold their political positions in the safe confines of the capital, protected by these same men and women, and receive full pay and retirement after serving one term. And only worry about what they can get for themselves.

It just does not make any sense.

Monday on Fox news they learned that the staffers of Congress family members are exempt from having to pay back student loans. This will get national attention if other news networks will broadcast it. When you add this to the below, just where will all of it stop?

35 States file lawsuit against the Federal Government

Governors of 35 states have filed suit against the Federal Government for imposing unlawful burdens upon them. It only takes 38 (of the 50) States to convene a Constitutional Convention.

This will take less than thirty seconds to read. If you agree, please pass it on.

This is an idea that we should address.

For too long we have been too complacent about the workings of Congress. Many citizens had no idea that members of Congress could retire with the same pay after only one term, that they specifically exempted themselves from many of the laws they have passed (such as being exempt from any fear of prosecution for sexual harassment) while ordinary citizens must live under those laws. The latest is to exempt themselves from the Healthcare Reform… in all of its forms. Somehow, that doesn’t seem logical. We do not have an elite that is above the law. I truly don’t care if they are Democrat, Republican, Independent or whatever. The self-serving must stop.

If each person that receives this will forward it on to 20 people, in three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message.. This is one proposal that really should be passed around.

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution: "Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States."

I must say I agree, and if such a bill gets set up, I would vote for it. of course getting it by the members of congress…. another story.

I woke up at 2 am and spent a good hour mulling over the huge division in rich and poor in the land. I remember when there was a nice big Middle class. my parents were middle class, it was a good life. my mother didn’t work, most women at that time didn’t work. the man provided a good living without two incomes. now you have to have two incomes just to survive. the middle class is now the thin line between the working poor and the new rich. In my line of work I have had glimpses of extreme poor , where if they are not on medicaid for "disability" ; they live in their relatives basements. or lower they are homeless, and panhandle in the streets. Though my middle child’s relationships have seen the life style of the new rich. Self made men who now own jet planes, 4 or 5 houses, etc. these are the bosses of the big business.  beyond them is the ultra rich, from which the politicians grow.  there are class divisions in America. class as in ways of thinking about life. there is a culture of poverty, and a culture of extreme wealth. I would like to think if you took some folks from poor, working poor, rich, extreme rich–washed all makeup and hair styles away, dressed them in the same bland clothing; and get them talking… that you would find them all the same. I know they all have the same issues over relationships, morals, etc within each class, …but the class divisions, the way of talking, the topics, the attitude would dominate and you could tell who was who. oh. I have one 80 yr old lady of a type that would be confusing to place. she was born wealthy, and attend the best schools, had an abusive husband, became an alcoholic, and bipolar, ended up after 3 marriages on the streets of Denver –homeless–for 3 years. she still has the class look, but lives in abject terror of losing her Medicare check (of 600 a month) because she will be homeless again. her only daughter, when she was homeless, told her she could come visit –for a week, but would have to leave after that.– that is what rich folks do, that’s why they are rich, I guess. she is still extremely proud of her daughter who is a big wig in her field back east. I think her daughter is selfish, but that’s me. the idiot who does what she can to help her kids, and knows that they will help her in return (and they have) but then I’m working poor. and can’t afford to retire. and the government wants to cut Medicare to pay its bills. not their own pay check, the pay check that folks need to survive on.– oh. yeah. but at 65, I’m just an old lady who sees it, and knows that is the way it is. injustice has always existed and always will. and it still sucks.

The widening class division worries and saddens me on a daily basis. I wrote to my state reps when my state’s govt shutdown because they continued to receive pay and per diem ($100/day)–per diem even though they live in the same area as the state capitol–while the rest of the govt workers got $0 for 3 weeks! One rep didn’t even reply back. The other replied he deserved it and characterized the

money he received as basically peanuts, stating he ‘wasn’t in it for the money’. They receive $42,000 for 5 months work–work that they can’t even complete thoroughly or on time. I’d give anything to find a job that paid $42,000 for 12 months work. They are so out of touch with reality….

i honestly think that law should be passed. take care,

I think if Congress cant agree on a budget they should have their pay stopped and all assets frozen until they get it worked out. Self serving bunch.

More and more every day, this government is telling us that that the poor in the country are not welcome anymore. They’re only interested in the interests of the rich.
