effectively a pink slip

I’m really annoyed this woman can think our GST issues are hers as well. Like it’s our fault the government held back her store’s GST credit. There’s no way they would do that for an employee’s personal/separate business overdue back GST!! WTF! If she had sent BF an ROE then this wouldn’t even be a problem. She thinks it’s because she co-signed a loan for us YEARS ago and is still "on the hook" somehow. That makes me really mad.

So, yeah, this morning started off with a nice bang.

BF came home last night with what was effectively a pink slip. He brang tidings of the wonderful news that his work is going to be "downsizing" and 6 of the 15 managers are being "downsized". These 6 will have the option to apply for other jobs within the company or to be demoted back to entry level (with entry level pay) at the termination deadline. The big bosses are stack-ranking all of the current managers (supposedly) according to their quality of work and blah blah blah. Ultimately, the bottom six will go. Three as of February 2, 2009 and the other 3 as of March 2, 2009. We fully expect that BF will be on this cut list. His immediate boss has had it in for him for weeks now, making up shit about him and totally screwing with him, raking him over the coals for shit that wasn’t his fault. Stuff that is NOT TRUE and couldn’t be validated even if it wasn’t entirely contradictory to other stuff the boss has said and done about his efforts. It is well known throughout the building that anyone she is friends with outside of work walks on Easy Street AT work with her. BF was one of 4 people who was NOT invited to her recent birthday party extravaganza. And not only was he not invited but SHE talked about it in front of him with BF’s counterparts who were invited, without looking at BF, without inviting BF at all. And, no, she could not have NOT known that he was there.

It just makes me feel sick to my stomach with worry. I mean, worst case scenario, he will go back down to entry level, take the pay cut and my ODSP assistance will increase to cover the difference …..  but this is still scary.

We will find out if he is cut today or Monday, apparently.

Our best hope, besides that he is not affected, is that he can be in the second group cut and be scheduled for termination as a manager in March. Then we can get him into a training class that lasts a month and move our a$$es to Ottawa.

But that also worries me because, if THIS employer is downsizing, it will surely be difficulat to find a job that pays as much if not more in Ottawa – a region which also widely requires French for employment. *sigh*

I still don’t know how exactly we will be able to get BF a job in Ottawa FROM HERE before we move up there………

IF we move up there at this point, I guess.

We just have to know for sure what we’re doing by the end of January because on February 1st we have to give notice to our landlord that we intend to leave at the end of our lease…

God help us if the auto industry dies and all of those people are also looking for work. We’re royally screwed then.
