My Aunt Has Breast Cancer

I’m just devastated. It’s so hard to deal with these things when you live 6 hours from your family. And my nanny just died of lung cancer in November… and my mom had an emergency surgery to have a pacemaker installed in April, on my birthday no less.

We’re not sure of much yet. She had preliminary test results come back today and her husband called to tell us it’s cancer. It’s only one lump. I don’t know how big it is. She noticed it while she had her period, thought it was just a period bump but it didn’t go away. They’re going to see the surgeon on Tuesday and think she will have the surgery next week as well. In between, she will have all the scans/tests to see if it has spread.

Breast cancer is NOT in our family history at all. Neither was lung cancer except for my nanny but she was a big smoker for a long time so that wasn’t so surprising.

The thing that worries me is: last week she was sick all week, she thought, with the flu – couldn’t keep anything down. Her hubby took her to the doctor for that (first time in 18 years – if you haven’t been in a long time because you "hate doctors" I *IMPLORE* you to go get checked NOW!) and they looked at the lump at the same time I guess. It seems like too much of a coincidence that she was sooo sick with the "flu" but I’ve never heard of breast cancer making you sick like that without radiation and chemo, etc…

I could care less about anything wedding-related right now.
