Well thank god this is back up. I missed all you interesting people with secret online lives and drama and angst. I can’t believe I missed the angst, but there we have it. I did. Everyone talking about relationships or lack of relationships and friends and family… people wanting to shout off rooftops in joy, others wanting to jump off rooftops. Call it sick, but I enjoy all of it. No, I don’t wish that people would continue being depressed or have terrible lives or any of that, but honestly it’s refreshing to hear about all of these different experiences. I think it makes us better people.
Ok so I didn’t miss the hearts.
I’m sick… again. I think I get sick more than anyone else on the face of the planet. Is it just the weather? Is it allergies? Do I need to get my tonsils out?
I’m very excited about politics right now. A very exciting time! But I’ve gotta be honest, could John McCain please get a little bit more boring? What? Not possible, you say? Oh alright. Seriously though, I really think Obama has a great chance of making it all the way and quite frankly it excites me!!! I also just love that Hillary and Barack are running, and they’re our only two democrats… I think it shows a ton of growth in this country, shows changes finally happening and breaking through… and is just wonderful for children to see this going on.
I was watching Oprah yesterday (because I’ve been working from home) and she had the Cosby kids on! Which was awesome… but anyway, one of the things they all talked about was how that show really truly impacted this country. It was the first of its kind – the first time Americans of all colors saw a black family on tv who lived that way and treated each other that way. One woman was there that said that show single-handedly changed her life. At any rate, I loved that show (still do – actually I’m watching it right now) when I was a kid and I think in a lot of ways it impacted me as well. It never seemed strange to me to see it, and, while you might say that’s exactly opposite of what it did for black Americans, to me it shows that shows like it made it normal for me. I grew up with it… it was normal… and kids don’t question that stuff.
Anyway I was just thinking how this presidential race has the same capability. A white woman and a black man are both running very successful, very real campaigns to be the President of the United States of America. First of all, it’s about fucking time. But second of all, YAHOOOOOO!!! To me that in itself is hope.
Now maybe I shouldn’t be focusing on the fact that these candidates fit those stats… but you know what we’re not quite that far along. It’s a first, and it’s a very positive first, so I’m noticing and everyone is and I think it’s ok. I think the notion of ignoring “color” or “sex” or anything like that is bullshit. It’s like trying to ignore hair color. (Although admittedly I can’t see us ever saying “First blond president!”) The more “firsts” we have, the sooner we can start to stop noticing things like that. And I don’t mean be oblivious to hair color or sex or skin tone or whatnot, but be oblivious that it means anything. Because other than being a first, it really doesn’t – even in this election.
Am I getting anywhere? I feel like I’m rambling and tying myself up in words.
We need to do our taxes.
(indecision)
Tch, angst. Whatever. That’s for teenagers and cutters. It’s all about midlife crisis’ at the age of 24 (quarter life crisis?) and wondering if college was worth it. That’s what I’m all about! I know what you mean about the firsts and all. I’m glad that Obama looks poised to win the nomination, too. The Cosby Show was pretty awesome. I wonder how Lisa Bonet looks now. Probably as hot as ever.
