frivolousity & bleu
Have you ever had the most incredible, most irrational urge to just BUY something? Not because you need to or were planning on it… but just to have something different to do or look at or whatever. If Ninetendo would just have its act together I would own a Wii right now. But they don’t and therefore I don’t. I almost also bought a Nano, but I’m still trying to find a way to use my “reward” money from work to buy that. So instead we finally bought that other curtain we need and two more controllers for our 360. We’d better play some halo tonight.
Meanwhile Chris got promoted this week! I am so incredibly proud of him. Now, because he’s a consultant, the promotion doesn’t really change his job or responsibilities at all. It’s more of a title change that comes with a really nice raise. He really deserves this – he’s been stuck in the same place with a not-very-challenging assignment for over 6 months, meanwhile doing a lot of shit for his company.
Disclaimer: what you are about to read is completely ridiculous, superficial, and means nothing whatsoever.
We’re in a new bracket baby! You know how sometimes you’ll take surveys or fill out applications (such as an info card when you visit or tour new homes, condos, and apartments) and they make you check which box you fall into for your household income? We can officially check a new box! When I lived with my parents I used to think it was pretty sweet to be able to check this box – I never anticipated reaching it ourselves within a year of college. Welcome to the IT industry bitches.
Welcome to possibly the most superficial entry I’ve ever written.
In other news I had my own midterm review today for my assignment. (No raise, don’t worry – that won’t happen until September, if at all.) But it went super well. I think I’m doing a good job and making a difference, and so do my managers. I have high hopes for getting the assignment I want next time around!
Meanwhile just 2 short months until Shanghai. Yes, in case I haven’t mentioned this before, my company is sending me to Shanghai for three weeks. Count ’em! Ridiculously cool. I’ve only ever been to Canada so I’ve obviously never been off the continent. Kind of scary, but I’ll be travelling with my close friends (thank god I was able to book my seat right next to Jeff and in front of Jon) so it’s probably the best possible situation in which to go. I have to send in my application for the visa soon. Man I finally got the dumb passport and now I have to send it back in! Such bullshit.
Does anyone ever actually use all 30,000 characters? I remember the days when it was a much shorter limit – and we totally used to go over the limit all the time. But 30,000? Ridiculous. Remember when OD used to crash all the time? Remember how it would crash and in doing so lose everything that you had written for that entry? That always sucked a whole bunch. I’m glad they fixed that problem. I remember we finally all got smart and would copy/paste entries into word documents before hitting “save” just to be sure. What a pain, OD. What a pain.
I really feel the need to use all remaining 26808 characters. Make that 26779. Damnit it keeps changing…
(indecision)
Tee hee! It’s perfectly ok to be superficial sometimes, it is probably actually healthy for you! I’m really glad for you both! I can’t wait to check the next box. I’m still checking the “or less” box. 🙂

RYN: wasn’t so much a statistic as a slightly exagerated number gleamed from experience. i just don’t generally get along well with people near my own age. too many are dumb and irresponsible and disrespectful and a host of other things i find reprehensible. sometimes i feel like a crotchety old man. lol
