“The Vagina Monologues” continued

After that entire discussion, today’s Oprah was about menopause. I thought it was rather fitting, though I didn’t see most of it due to practicing. Women have a lot of junk to deal with… a lot of junk besides simply the sexual side of things that is never talked about in any great deal, or at least not openly. (Close friends do discuss it, but again, not too openly.)

For example, do you remember that entry I wrote this past summer regarding tampon use? Or rather, my first attempt at using a tampon? No one ever really tells you what it’s going to feel like, or discusses how to wear one, etc. That time I tried to use one with no prior knowledge, then came home and asked my mom what exactly I was supposed to do. Let’s just say she wasn’t that great at explaining, not to mention we didn’t have any tampons with applicators in our house. I don’t think anyone ever told me about that burning sensation when you shove in your first non-applicator tampon. All I can say is thank God for those plastic applicators… it’s a lot easier to take. And I hate it when you’re PMSing, or even not PMSing, and guys tease you about it. What gives them the right to accuse you of PMSing (regardless of whether or not you actually are) when it’s really much more of a pain for us than them? I detest that fact that we get headaches or stomach aches (ok so some have it worse than the rest of us) and guys will ask what’s wrong, which is really sweet of them, but I definitely never feel comfortable enough to tell them that my guts are falling out through my vagina…

So maybe it wasn’t about sex, but it was about things pertaining to it.

a half an hour later

On the news, literally on the news just a second ago, they reported that a poll showed somewhat different results than my entry would suggest. They say that women discuss sex more than men, and apparently feel more comfortable talking about it. I can’t even believe they just said that on the NEWS… it ties into today so well. It’s incredible, because I was just telling Annie about writing this entry, and then all of a sudden I hear the voice on the TV talking about the very same subject. Perhaps the monologues are successful!
