a passion of writing

I just went through some of my more recent entries… digging to find something worthy to call “free writing”. In our AP English class, the AWESOME teacher (and I meant that quite seriously… not being sarcastic) told us about our free reading and free writing assignments. Every week we are to read 50 pages of a book of our choice, and in addition we are to write 750 words a week. HAH! That’s nothing… come on… you all know how much I write. Which is actually really great, because I’ve pretty much developed a voice and the ability to write over the past year or so. It’ll be fun to turn things in. At any rate… I don’t intend to cheat much, but I figured if I have a week where I just DON’T have time to write, why not re-use an entry here or there? Only in emergencies, I might add… and I’ve only picked out things I’ve written in the past two weeks… but seriously. If I need to, I’ve written plenty that could be called free writing. I’d turn in the the whole danged diary and say “here’s 500 entries and way more words than you’ll ever want to read…” but then there’s the entire 750 per WEEK… not all of it in ONE week. Ahh well.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to start Emma as my free reading, since I wasn’t able to read it this summer as intended. Anyone care to join me on that journey? No, I suppose not. I’d imagine none of you have time, but I’m required to read what I want. Hehe… what a great teacher. She’s requiring us to do the two things I love doing MOST… the two things I did on my own free will all summer! Wonderful wonderful. And it’s not like I have homework in any other class to hinder me from those things. I can do it as much as I want.

I intend to go to bed really soon now. I’m exhausted… thorougly. Band was rough, and it was hot… and I’m already sleep deprived from getting up at 6 and being out the door at 7 and being in school at 7:10 everyday. That’s not supposed to happen until September at least. Blech. What was I saying? Oh, right… sleep. So perhaps I’ll start the book tonight. I started writing already, so why not? Hmm, perhaps I’ll write during 13-14 everyday? Or maybe I’ll just make Nolan take me to some secluded lovely spot and we’ll both just sit and write our guts out.

Another reason why I like him so much… he’s a writer… he sees the beauty of nature EXACTLY where I see it. Only I believe he’s better at writing it than I am and seeing it as words, whereas I’m better at seeing it as pictures. He once asked me if I had to give up photography or writing, which would I keep? Tough question… I stammered for a few seconds on that one. Then it came to me. Writing. I’d keep the writing. No question. No doubt about it. I love photography… don’t get me wrong… and I hope I never have to give it up. But writing has ALWAYS been there. You can only capture so much in a picture. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I think that’s crap. A picture is worth a thousand words of nature and description. But only words can capture the mind. The soul. The emotion.

With that I’ll begin my book and be

~swept away in words~

Wow, this was a great entry. I loved the part about pictures and words. So profound, my dearest sister. 🙂
