Go Spam Yourself

That was the catchy title for an article I read on spammers, a topic near and dear to my heart.

A couple of weeks ago, Virginia autoirities charged two spammers with sending out false information in the form of email.  Apparantly Virginia is gung-ho because for one reason, AOL is based in said state. WTF?  AOL wants these spammers to be prosecuted, because….. why?  In my opinion, these two spammers learned from the best.   How many AOL disks have we gotten through the US mail in our lifetime?  Did we ask for them?  Did we want them?  It’s not like we NEEDED them.  After the first dozen or so, I called AOL and told them to take me off their list.  “Well, we can’t take you off the list.  We don’t do the mailing ourselves.  We have an independant service that does it for us.”  Ok, what is THEIR number?  “They don’t have a telephone number.” *grrrrr*

Now I see that the state of New York, and Microsoft have filed joing lawsuits against what they say is a giant spam ring.  Microsoft set up a “spam trap” and caught the New York based email marketing firm, who by the way rakes in millions of dollars a month.  It just seems so wrong to set up a firm who’s sole purpose is to make people’s lives miserable.  But even if this operation is shut down, another one will be set up to take it’s place.

There IS a bright side to all of this though.  I could be rich in the very near future.  If convicted, this “firm” could be fined up to $500 for each piece of fraudulent email sent out.  That money WILL come directly to me, won’t it?  🙂

All is quit on the homefront – both last night and this morning.  I spent almost all day with friends.  Annie and I went Xmas shopping.  She dropped me off at home, and after a short while, I drove to her house to help her with some computer issues.  Then Sharon joined us, and we went out for coffee.  I think we should do that more often.  Today is a new day, and I’m feeling good.  Thanks, dear diary friends for your words of encouragement.  I hope you know how much it means to me.

I wanna hang out with you! Whaa! Who makes money off spam? More to the point, who is buying all that penis cream?

December 22, 2003

I have the same question Kate has. Who is making money on the penis enlargement stuff? Glad things were quiet for you. Sounds like you were surrounded by good things and good people. Hugs,

Have heard there’s a spam blocker that returns any e-mail that doesn’t have an address in your listing. I’m deluged with sex & drug marketing stuff. Am afraid to click on the “remove me” lines because it confirms it’s an active number for marketing. Most spam would be blocked if the word “Viagra” in the message would trigger blocking it; that would cover drug stuff as well

What I want to know is who started the rumor I needed the penis creame?

Ah, you could be rich! I’m SURE that since they already have your address and email they will one day send that check. And you won’t have to go to a vacation home sell venture to cash it!

In the last couple of weeks I’m getting at least twice as much spam as before. Something’s gotta be done. I’m glad you’re feeling better. Hugs, P. nsi at K’s Cat

Here’s a little spam of my own making: Brenda, you are on my favorites list. You are there because you have provided some meaningful insight into my life, joy, a little laughter, maybe a tear of two. Thank you for everything. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

RYN on gellie: The menus are as complicated as you want to make them. I usually don’t use the recipes to cook the food-I usually use it more for what ingredients I’m going to be eating. They have some really fancy dishes but I just do basics-broiling, grilling, etc.

Have a healthy, wealthy and happy 2004. RYN: You must see the movie “Somethings Gotta Give” but first read ThomaS’ entry about this movie if you haven’t already. It is hysterical. The man is crazy. Between seeing the movie and reading his comments and his readers’ notes, I can’t stop laughing.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the prosecution of spammers. I’m happy for you to be having some nice time at home & with friends.
