About Weeds
In the spring it is difficult to tell what is flower and what is weed. For a period of time, I nurture both the same. Only time will tell which will survive “the harvest.”
If there is any doubt, I will not disturb the weed.
Some thoughts while weeding my garden this morning….
If I reach into the bed too far and can’t see what I’m pulling out, how do I know if it was really something I wanted or needed to throw out? But how long should I spend tediously checking each stalk to make sure what it really is that I have a hold of?
Persistent weeds are strangling some of the flowers. What do I have to do in order for them not to smother what I have been cultivating?
If it is pretty or interesting, is it really a weed?
If I pull the weed from the surface and the roots do not come out with it, do I dig until I get to the root, or do I wait until the weed surfaces again? (Time always seems to be a factor)
For several years I have grown what is called Bugleweed. I bragged that nothing would kill it. I was wrong, and this spring I lost all of them. There has to be a life lesson here…..
And finally, If weeds were people, how would each of these answers change?
I like weed! Weed is always good. Keep growing that weed! No stress, no seeds, no stems, no sticks! Some of that real sticky-icky-icky! Eweeeee, put it in the air!!!

My home has steep banks on all sides. It was a rural development when we came 50 years ago. Weeding, poison oak and gophers were BIG problems. Gophers finally conceded to the invaders, There’s a small grove of redwood trees where the poison oak was, and low growing juniper now covers all the banks esxept one. Pine needles covered that until neighbor removed the trees. New weed problem there!

“If weeds were people…” I LOVE that idea! If it weren’t hottern hell here with steam and mosquitos, I’d go sit in my tall weeds and contemplate it. I guess I can sit inside and look out the window. At all those “people” in my yard! Eeek! Love ya, P.

Weeds, it is hard to know in the early stages. I usually let them go long enough till I can tell the difference. It is hard to tell with people sometimes too. I don’t think I am as patient with people. I feel like life is too short to spend time with people who just don’t strick me right. I mean I have friends who have differing opinions etc. Attitude has a lot to do with my decision re: people.
