Hamster Dance

Another day, another reason for my co-workers to think I’m crazy.

You have to understand… I’m the youngest person at the job, about 10 years younger than the next youngest.  I’m the age of a few of the other ladies’ children and there’s one or two whom I’m the same age as their grandchild, so, as you can imagine, there’s one hell of a generation gap.

In fact, there’s only one of my direct co-workers that I can talk with on a personal level, and three or so others who I see daily who work here that I can talk with.  K’s husband games a lot, so she and I can talk about gaming, Jamie’s as weird as I am and the two of us love to team up on David to see if we can get him flustered.  We usually do.  And Guppy.  I can talk with Guppy.  As long as I don’t try to talk to him about anything serious.  I spend my days alone, except for lunch and a little time in the morning.  Anyways…

Last night Mom told me that we needed to pick up worms for Maili’s frogs (Maili’s my little sister), and so the boyfriend and I stopped at Petsmart.  Normally this would be an easy chore… go in, get worms, pay, get out… but this time, I made a mistake… I walked down the isle with the hamster cages and fell in love.  I begged the boyfriend to let me bring one home, and he told me that I needed to ask my momma… so I called her and asked if it would be okay, and she laughed and said I could bring one home, but she wouldn’t do anything for it… wouldn’t feed it or water it or play with it, or anything. It would be my own pet, and my responsibility.  I was alll excited.  I did pick one out, a cute, dark grey, long haired hamster.  o.o The boyfriend says that I act like a 6 year old who’s getting her first pet.  But, it’s pretty much the same idea… I’ve never had a personal pet.  My sister always had the pets, I just never had any wants or needs to bond with a pet, but I’m happy that I got my hamster.

I think I named it Phedre… but I’m kind of thinking that Persephone would be good too. ::ponders:: Silly, I know.

My coworkers called me silly because of how excited I am about my new pet.  I got her all set up in a cage in my room, with a wheel and a house and food and berry treats and went back downstairs to watch wrestling with the boyfriend.

Sleeping last night wasn’t bad, although I could hear her running in her wheel.

I feel like such a dork.  But I’m happy, I’m going to get her a larger cage soon, and some of those tubes to run through… hopefully she’ll be a nice hamster and I can take her out and sit with her.
