Sleepy time

Last night was another good night. Thankfully we are all getting some sleep, and that overwhelming feeling is starting to settle. I was so concerned on Saturday night, I just had that feeling of what have I gotten myself into, how am I able to do this! But last night we all got the best sleep yet I think. We put River in her cot for the first time (she was sleeping in our bed on a makeshift basonet up until then)  and she seemed great. We put the cot at the foot of the bed and just checked on her when she seemed  distressed. Im pretty sure Kati only had to get up maybe twice for a feed and change. It was nice for Kati and I to be able to sleep close again, without a large belly or baby between us. I didnt get out of bed till 11, and probably went to bed around 12.30 or so, which was awesome. In fact, I think I slept too much because I felt like crap when I woke up, but managed to shake it off soon enough. I only woke a few times through the night too, mostly just when Kati was feeding to help with pillows and positioning. Mum showed us a trick yesterday which seems to be a godsend for us. We had the problem where Kati would feed River, she would fall asleep, set her down then 5-10 minutes later she would wake up hungry again. We would wake her up while she was on the breast, and she would feed some more then fall asleep again. We just couldnt figure her out. But what mum told us was that when she has fallen asleep on the breast and doesnt seem to be responding, put a blanket down on a hard surface like the floor, leave her there for no longer than 5 minutes, and if she isnt too restless then she is ok to put to sleep, but if she wont settle, put her on the other breast and continue feeding. River had her best feed yet with that method yesterday, which Im sure has something to do with the rest we all got last night!

She has been very peaceful again today, and Kati is insisting on me resting while she does some chores, which I am finding VERY hard, but at the same time I know I need to let her do it and get some rest for myself so I can properly take care of us. Plus, I think I stole some of her thunder for ‘nesting’ by doing most of the cleaning in the last few weeks when I was off work!

Hope everyone else is well, Im going to try to get to some notes now!
