bye bye blackbird

orange washes into black and you turn your back

‘i’m sorry’ still hangs in the air
ever the effervescent balloon it hisses and foams growling gas escapes as you fly,
you stay low but move so fast as if a day hadn’t gone by almost our of earshot but still in sight
gliding so gracefully into a sinking sun
you’ll catch it by midnight
it will follow you till dawn till you’re gone
the orange ball wraps into a thousand black ghosts
i’m done being all i ever wanted to be

i sit on your porch swing and watch me set you free

This poem puts lovely imagery into my mind. So vivid. The last line is my favorite.

A breakup poem? I would’ve never guessed. Hm.

Too kind? I don’t think so.
