Coming Home Again
I was up before the alarm even went off and it was set to 3:45am. I guess I was just so nervous about oversleeping and being late for everything. We got dressed and ready to go. I did a few things for Mom and with a hug and kiss, we were off. We were out of the house by 4:15 and going the absolute wrong way on the highway. It was no big deal, though, my daughter realized it right away and I got off at the very next exit and turned around. We had the rental car back by 5am, were shuttled to the airport and made it to the check-in desk before they opened at 5:10.
We were disappointed to find that we were, once again, seated apart on the plane. When we got to the gate I complained nicely to the representative who immediately took our tickets, typed a few things in and handed them back to us having changed everything so we were together. Looking at the seat numbers, I suspected she had upgraded us. Sure enough, when we boarded, I found we were in economy plus (the airbus answer to first class). I was extremely happy then and felt compensated for having been seated apart on the way down. Good going Ted 😉
The flight was somewhat uneventful. I didnt take any of my nervous pills because I didnt think it was fair for me to do that if my daughter couldnt (she might be pregnant lets hope). I was scared during take off, but after awhile in the air I was okay. We chatted during the flight then drifted into a nap since we had been up so early. I dont think she slept, but I did. She listened to the little TV shows they played.
After what seemed like an eternity, we landed a few minutes early. Heading directly to the bathrooms then Starbucks, we got our morning caffeine well, I got mine, shes not doing caffeine right now, all decaf then we went down to baggage claim. We got our luggage then waited a little bit for my other daughter and son-in-law to pick us up. Fortunately she had our coats which were much needed in the cold Chicago weather. From there we went to the bank so I could cash their Christmas checks from their Grandma and Uncle, then we had a little breakfast. Finally, I was dropped off at home where I got to hug my little boy 😉 not so little any more, but still MY baby. I missed him and was so glad to be back.
My afternoon was filled with catching up with mail, bills, business, and boring stuff. My husband got home at about 7pm and we spent the evening cuddled on the couch until I drifted into an early comatose sleep.
