Trivial Things

Well, things are getting a little bit back to normal around here. First, my husband has had several job interviews. He interviewed for one job a few weeks ago and they still haven’t made a decision which is not a good sign but one never knows. He was offered a consulting position which pays well but is only short-term and has no benefits but would cover us until the end of the year. He’s set to start Monday which would be nice because that will be pay while we’re still getting his severance pay so he has agreed to do that, but in the meantime something else came up. His headhunter called with an offer that is slightly less than what he was making at the old place but is permanent and offers benefits (which are important especially with my son’s diabetes). My husband interviewed there today and they loved him. He’s got to meet with the president of the company tomorrow but it looks really good. He’ll probably take that if it’s offered. The benefits are not bad and we could still see our same doctors but the plan is not as good as the one we had.

God was good and we got a second car for $500. It’s ugly and needs a paint job desperately but is in good shape. It’s a ’91 Buick Skylark and just turned up suddenly through a mechanic friend of ours. My husband has been taking the train into the city these past few years and we didn’t need a second car. The consulting gig really required it as would this new job he interviewed for. So things are going well.

We picked up the car today so I went without taking any pain meds all day, knowing that I would have to drive. I did okay until about 4pm or so, then it got pretty unbearable, but I made it. When we got home I took a pill and a half but I think it’s getting better. Instead of feeling like a spear went through me (back and front), I feel more like I just got stabbed with a knife (front only). So maybe the pain will abate completely pretty soon. I hope so. I’m getting sort of sick of this and I don’t want to get addicted to this stuff although I don’t think there’s much danger of that since I don’t particularly enjoy the feelings.

I did feel a lot better today and got some things done. I did dishes and cleaned out some drawers, etc. When I got to hurting too much I lay down for awhile and tried to sleep it off. Much later in the evening my daughter came over with my granddaughter. It was so great to see her! We had a lot of fun playing with Play-dough and watching Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein. She is so adorable. My daughter made her famous super-healthy vegetable soup. It was really a very pleasant evening.

A couple days ago my daughter and son-in-law, son, husband and myself went to see Sky Captain of America or whatever it’s called. It wasn’t bad. I found myself getting bored here and there but would recommend it to people who like action-y science fiction stuff.

Well, that’s about it. My husband is meeting with the president of that company tomorrow morning at 10am so if anybody reads this before then, please pray for him. If it’s to be, it would be nice if they would offer him the job ASAP so that he won’t even have to start that consulting job on Monday and can just go straight to the full time thing. I know that it what he would really like to do. And if it’s not to be, well… I want my husband to have the job that God wants him to have, things always work out better that way!

I’m writing this at nine fifteen am on 15th. That should be 2:15 in the morning your suburban midwest time (Itook the time in Chicago for that). Therefore I’m the first reader able to pray for your husband’s job. Except I can’t, since I have no one to pray to! So let me wish him the very best of luck and confidence at his interview, and may God (!) bless both of you…
