More Poetry

And here is the educational part of our evening… I’ve been studying more poetry things. Tonight I have written a Cinquain and two Clerihew poems. A Cinquain is a poem that has five lines. The first line is two syllables, the second is four, the third is six, the fourth is eight, and the last is back down to two again. Clerihew consists of (usually) a name, then two rhyming couplets sort of describing that person. The first line doesn’t neccessarily have to be a name, but that’s what is traditional. I also wrote a Haiku poem. In case you’ve forgotten eigth grade English (which I had), a haiku consists of three lines. The first is five syllables, the second is seven, and the third is five.

Here goes:

Cinquain type poetry

Mountains

Mountains

hypnotizing

rise above the forests

I lay my cheek against cool earth

and breathe

Clerihew type poetry

(My Husband’s Name Goes Here)

Husband

gentle, warm, and sweet

except for stinky feet.

best father there could be

and perfect man for me.

(okay, I know that was pretty goofy, but it fits!)

Elections

Candidates

like shifty salesmen push their views

and try to make the evening news

I’m not too fond of either one

I’d like to see Ventura run.

(just kidding… unfortunately since this is a Clerihew, I can’t add the natural last line: “at least then we would have some fun.”)

Haiku type poetry

Daughter

pink blanket, soft skin

today you wear a white gown

oh, how I’ll miss you

This poetry thing is really fun… sort of like a word puzzle. Hope it’s not boring you all… but, then again, it’s my diary so I can be as boring as I want to be, can’t I?

Just leaving you a note so you know I still read your diary each and every day. I haven’t forgotten about you. Love you.

Thanks for the note…Yes I know that it doesn’t just come to us and stay but hopefully all of you who leave me notes will remind me to read my own entries when I start to give in. You help me be strong..thanks
