simple pleasures

Cancelled all the day’s appointments and felt the exquisite pleasure of bed.  Quilt.  Tea.  Fluid actually coming out of my ear …  Jane Austen (Northanger Abbey) and C. S. Lewis (That Hideous Strength).  Astronomy textbook (solar eclipses, the line of nodes, saros cycle … ).  Cross-stitch (my niece’s stocking).  The first-quarter moon shining through my window, hours before sunset.  Peppermint foot spa ritual (in Ms Spur’s enamel basin).  Chicken noodle soup simmering for hours on the stove as I doze.  Edgar (the cat) sitting on top of my chest and snuggling around my throat, as if he’s trying to make it better.  The unmelted snow dazzling outside.  Eggnog.  My mother’s Christmas mandolin recording from the 70’s (as in, a recording of my mother playing the mandolin).

If fluid is coming out of your ear then you’ve had far too much tea.

Lewis is always good. But THS is one of his hardest and deepest.

I’m giggling at Icarus Knew’s note. I hope you feel better soon. That sounds like the perfect recipe for wellness!

RYN: More neurotic but more dependably so. Me? Less neurotic but a flake. I focus on our amazing commonalities the others are seasoning. Fluid out of your ear? It takes an interesting circumstance to bring Icarus Knew out of his silence. Ciao,

Oh, chicken soup. Do you have the recipe for wonderful Cook’s Illustrated chicken stock that only takes an hour to make? I will make it this winter. Call it a resolution. Even if I have to buy a cleaver to hack up the chicken. Quarter moon already? Seems like just yesterday it was a bare waxing crescent. But then, I suppose it was only a few days ago. :)–

That sounds like a delightfully cozy day at home, and wish you could experience that feeling much more often. Here’s hoping that you can connect with your centre more often, and keep in in grasp. Be well,

Awww, get well soon. -X
