End of year survey

I’ve done this for a couple years now and like to have them to look back at for reference. In the absence of resolutions I think these can be a good way to see if I’m where I wanted to be at the end of the year.

What things did you do in 2011 that you’d never done before?
Got engaged and saw Italy

Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Didn’t make any last year and didn’t make any this year.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes! Annalisa and Becky

Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully, no.

What countries did you visit?
Italy

What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
A less stressful and time consuming job

What date(s) from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
September 1, 2011: found out my mom had early stage breast cancer
October 19, 2011: got engaged!

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Sadly, I’m having a tough time thinking of something here.  But I also wasn’t looking for any major achievements. I think I juggled things pretty well considering all the stressors of the year.

What was your biggest failure?
Occasionally letting anger and stress get the best of me. Also, it’s not that big of a deal and is just purely shallow because I’m very healthy, but I didn’t really tone up as I’ve hoped to do the last couple years.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing major, thankfully, but I got bronchitis in Italy and it lasted for nearly six weeks. It was frustrating and annoying coughing so much and trying to convince myself to take it easy but it certainly could have been worse. Aside for the coughing I felt fine and had plenty of energy.

What was the best thing you bought?
A trip to Italy

Whose behavior merited celebration?
P, always.

Whose behavior appalled you?
Anna’s in Colorado and my boss’ overall

Where did most of your money go?
The house I signed a contract for this fall

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Buying this house, Italy, getting engaged

What song will always remind you of 2011?
The first thing that comes to find is "Moves like Jagger"

Compared to this time last year, are you:

– Happier or sadder?
About the same which is generally very happy. I’m stressed and filled with anxiety but not sad

– Thinner or fatter?
Thinner, but not by a whole lot. I weighed myself this weekend and I was 119. I’m 5’8" and usually about 122-125. I want to tone up quite a bit but don’t want to be below 115 for the wedding

– Richer or poorer?
Both really. I got a nice raise and bonus so I make more, but purchasing this house is draining my savings and always in the back of my mind so I feel poorer

What do you wish you’d done more of?
Spent more time with my friends, read more books, done more yoga/pilates

What do you wish you’d done less of?
Stressed and let myself become consumed by anxiety, said anything hurtful to people I love

How did you spend Christmas, and what did you get this year?
Paul, his mom, his niece, and I spent Christmas in Colorado. Our parents have met but I think we were all still nervous about the trip. It turned out really well, thankfully. I got money, clothes, a kindle and some odds and ends

What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in 2011?
Not sure, which is good. I’m sure there were times at work where I was embarrassed because I didn’t have an answer for something.

Did you fall in love in 2011?
I fell deeper again:)

How many one-night stands?
None.

What was your favorite TV show?
A few: True Blood, Big Brother, Teen Mom

What kept you sane?
The usual stuff: P, my mom, OD

What vacations did you take?
Scottsdale in September and Italy in October

Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
What I feel for my boss is very close to hate, but not quite

What was the best book you read in 2011?
Shamefully, I’m not sure I read an entire book this year. There was a drastic reduction in my reading when I got a smart phone. I did, however, just get a kindle, so I’m thinking there will be a bit of a pick up.

What was your greatest musical discovery?

Most of those I enjoyed I discovery in 2010 like Florence + The Machine, Adele, The Black Keys. Maybe Jason Aldean, he is definitely 2011

What did you want and get?
A proposal and a ring

What did you want and not get?
The job of my dreams or at least something I really look forward to going to everyday

What was your favorite film of the year?
Can’t think of anything. We saw the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo the other day. It was good but disturbingly graphic

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 30. P and I went to dinner and everyone I really care about made me feel special. The trip to Italy was also a week later, so it feels like that’s what we did for my birthday

What three things would have made your year more satisfying?
less stress with work, toning/getting rid of my cellulite, everyone in my family and P’s remaining perfectly healthy

Which celebrity/public figure did you like the most?
No one really impressed me

What political issue stirred you the most?
Probably the issues regarding our nations debt

Who did you miss?
My family, always

Which ODers did you meet for the first time?
None, never met an ODer 🙁

What is a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011?
That people don’t really change but that I can certainly work on changing myself

What quote can be used to sum up your year?
Hmm, probably something to the effect of how worrying doesn’t change anything

What are your greatest hopes for 2012?
To find a well suited job I enjoy and can flourish at, get through selling this place and buying the new place with the least amount of pressure on our relationship, enjoy the wedding and planning and not stress about it ( I want to think back on it fondly and want to give it the excitement and positive energy it deserves), my brother to find a great girlfriend, everyone I love to remain safe and healthy, and hopefully make a baby on our honeymoon.
