First, here are some photos from our Mackinac and Upper Peninsula trip last month.

The hotel we stayed at on the island is a renovated Victorian home with a huge porch. It was very cute! There were horse-drawn carriages and people on horseback everywhere (there are no cars allowed on the island, so you either walk, bike, or go by horse).

Lower Falls

The upper falls is actually one large waterfall, 200 feet across with a 50 foot drop. The water is a reddish brown due to the mineral content of the rock under the water. It was a beautiful site, and I am so glad we decided to drive up there! You could hear the waterfall as soon as you drove into the park, and there is a viewing platform right on the edge. The lower falls is actually a set of smaller falls, and you can’t get as close to them. So photos are from farther away. I did like the boats tied up along the shore.

In other news, I have been working two jobs for the last three weeks. Boy am I tired! This will be my fourth weekend, but for the last three weeks I have been working 6 days, 60-65 hours per week. I just had two days off in a row, which was wonderful. I work the next five days. I am really enjoying my new clinic. Everyone there is so nice, always joking around and trying to have a good time. Sometimes our job is hard, but that is just the nature of emergency medicine. It’s nice to have such good company to get through it with. My boss and coworkers have been showering me with praise, which is a really nice feeling! I can see myself here long term. As for my old job, I am not sure how long I want to stay on over there. I like it for the most part, but am feeling worn down by all the hours, and feeling like I am not able to enjoy my summer as I would like to. I’m not sure. I have been talking with Greg about it. I don’t need to work it by any means, I have just been trying to pad our savings accounts and get the last bit of money we need to finally redo our kitchen (which should be starting in July). We will see what happens.

We are planning a camping trip in July, and I am so excited about it! We don’t know for sure yet it we are leaving the 1st or the 2nd, but if all goes according to plan we will be staying through the 11th. Greg’s plant is shutting down for summer vacation, and it all depends on what start date they choose. Either way, it will be a good time, as it always is!

Let me finish out with some cure photos from work… this is a male white-tail deer fawn who was at death’s doorstep when he came in. Hypothermic, low blood sugar, dehydrated. We placed an IV, got fluids started and dextrose to bring up his blood sugar, and got him warmed up. Within 30 minutes he was feeling a whole lot better, and after 48 hours of care was ready to go to a wildlife rehabilitator.
