[weekend away]
This past weekend Greg and I went to the northern part of Michigan for some time away.
We left Friday morning and headed up to the northwestern part, where we stayed the night. The next morning we participated in a 51-mile bike ride to Mackinaw City (the northernmost tip of the lower peninsula of Michigan). Once that was done, we did a little browsing, then hopped on a ferry to Mackinac Island (yes, they are spelled differently, but pronounced the same). We arrived on the island around 8:30, and checked into our hotel there. We freshened up a bit and decided to check out the downtown area. We stopped for coffee and walked around exploring. Around 10:30 we headed back to the hotel.
The next morning we got up early and headed back out to explore some more. We got coffee, walked a bit downtown, then headed into the wooded area in the center of the island. We sae a couple of tiny caves, a really cool arched rock formation at Lake Huron, and tons of horses. We headed back into town for lunch, then spent some time actually checking out the shops downtown and walked along the water. We headed back into the woods again to check out a couple other things, then came back and did some biking along the water. It was lovely! We decided to catch the 4:00pm ferry back to the mainland and head home.
We are a bit impulsive on vacation sometimes (remember that time we bought a boat while camping?) and decided on a whim to drive across the bridge into the upper peninsula. We headed about an hour north to check out Tahquamenon Falls, which are a set of upper and lower waterfalls. Once we were done there it was around 8:30, so we decided to finally head home (we were about six hours away from home). We got in just before 3:00, played with Blue (my mom watched her for the weekend), and crashed pretty quickly. It was a lot of fun, but we were exhausted! We walked for miles on the island after that big bike ride, so lots of exercise.
Today has been mostly lazy. I got the laundry from the trip done, unpacked everything, and just relaxed a bit. Greg is at work tonight, but I don’t go back until Thursday. I have to start studying for board exams, which are coming up quick. And then my new job starts Sunday, so I will be working a lot the next couple weeks between both clinics.
Pictures as soon as I figure out how to get them from my phone to the computer!
