NoJoMo Day 9

Today’s entry is early because we’re going out in a bit to watch the Christmas parade and the lights being switched on in Birmingham. I know, it’s really early, people were having bonfire parties last night and we’re already onto Christmas. But the German Christmas market starts next weekend and it taked up the entire city centre until the end of December so it’s the only time they can turn the lights on.

Sure it’s mainly for kids, but they have reindeer and camels that I want to see. Some bloke dressed as Santa is turning the lights on, you’d think they’d be able to afford some sort of celebrity, mind you I probably wouldn’t know who they were. In the town where I grew up, they seemed to have a different cast member of Coronation Street turning the lights on each year, interspersed with a couple of Gladiators, The Krankies and David Essex.

I had a good productive morning. Well I woke up at 8:30, which is really early for me on a weekend. I had a shower, changed the bed, did two loads of laundry, cleaned out the birds, cleaned out the fire grate, cleaned the kitchen and went out to pick up a parcel from the sorting office (mam’s Christmas present!) and get petrol. All before 11am! I’ll have to get up early more often.

Tomorrow I really really need to get cracking on my next essay.

For the past few years, it’s been school kids turning the lights on in your home town!
