Starting Fresh (PICS)
I know I’ve already written today, but I felt like also writing a real entry of just the current day’s events — not that there’s anything terribly exciting going on. I guess I’m really just bored. I have work that I should be doing, but there’s been a hold put on it. I just got a new project Wednesday, but I got an email about a related project yesterday. The group wants to have a meeting on Monday to discuss implementation, so I can’t really progress with my changes until I get more detailed specs. Oy.
Last night was interesting. I briefly mentioned that I was going to a social hosted by the Colorado Springs Young Professionals group. It was held downtown at V Bar. I think it’s a relatively new joint as most of the people that I talked to had never been there. I liked the atmosphere. It was dark, but the walls and lights were painted in bright, cool colors. It was very modern, hip. The night was sponsored by Spike Energy Drink and Absolute Vodka.
A couple of ice sculptures had also been brought in for decoration. One was the words ‘Absolute Vodka’, but the other… Now picture this. Carved into the block of ice was the word ‘Bar’. Atop that sat a large, perfectly sculpted ‘V’ — you know, as in V Bar. Now, in between the ‘legs’ of the V (much as in between the legs of, say, a human — particularly a male) was positioned a long, smooth, ice tube (although, I like the word ‘shaft’ better) with a hole running through the length of it. Yes, all sorts of dirty thoughts popped into my head when saw it. It was called the luge. The bar owner passed out plastic, shot-sized martini glasses. Each patron stepped up, positioned their glass underneath the, er, head of the luge, and the bartender poured perfectly proportioned amounts of Spike and your choice of flavored Absolute down the tube. The alcohol flowed through the shaft and into your glass, chilling as it made its way down. Genius, I tell you.
Fortunately for you all, I took a picture. However, my camera is at home, so I’ll have to upload it this evening when I get off work.
Tonight shall be fun-filled… not. I have a massive to-do list of tasks for this evening. I haven’t really bought groceries since I moved here, so needless to say, I’m about to spend some money. I also want to buy some firewood since it’s getting so cold at night. I don’t have central heat and air (very few apartments here do). I only have electric heaters that run along the baseboards of the outside walls. They work well, but I’d rather have a cozy fire to snuggle up in front of this week. I also need to clean my place. I have tons of laundry to do, and the floor desperately needs to be vacuumed. Isn’t this how you’d like to spend your Friday night? I just want to get it all done tonight so I can relax in the morning before picking Bobby up at the airport.
Tomorrow, we’re not planning on doing anything once he gets here. We’ll probably cook dinner, start a fire, and have an ungodly amount of sex. Yep, that sounds like a plan. I think we might take a trip up Pikes Peak on Sunday. Mom and John drove up when they visited a couple of weeks ago. They both said it’s a really scary drive, but it’s absolutely beautiful at the top. Besides, I want to see some snow. It’s snowed down here at the lower elevations, but not enough to stick to the ground. The tops of houses and cars were white, but it had melted by the end of the work day. Anyway, if we make it up there this weekend, I’ll be sure to take tons of pictures for you.
Pictures. That reminds me, just before I moved, I traded in my car on an Xterra. No, I was not happy about it, but it was necessary. I needed something that would get around better in the snow, and I needed something that could haul a lot of boxes. I basically packed everything I could in that little SUV and left everything else behind. My mom sold all of my furniture for me, so I arrived with practically nothing. On the first day here, I stopped by a furniture store and ordered everything I would need. I’m still waiting on two pieces (one of which will be in tomorrow), but I have some pictures of the rest of the place. Want to see?

There is another bedroom, but all that’s in there at the moment is my sound equipment and a black futon. Nothing spectacular enough to take a photo of. And like I said, I’m still waiting on another couple of pieces of furniture — a coffee table that will be in tomorrow and chest that matches the bed which should be in next weekend. I don’t really have a whole lot on the walls yet, but I’m getting there. I’m kind of having to buy things as I have the time and money. I’m starting out fresh with everything brand new, and that’s not cheap!
I suppose I don’t have much else left to write about at the moment. I’ll update with a pic of the luge tonight…
Cheers,
Rachel
If you’re gonna post pics, why not post pics of you guys going at it over the weekend? (I know, I know…I’m such a pig!) 😉
