Mistaken for a Chick (R)

One Day at a Time

Another run. It has cooled off significantly over the past 24 hours or so. We had a couple of days with highs in the low 80’sF. Today was in the low 70’sF, tonight is expected to be in the low 40’sF and tomorrow we will have upper 60’sF. It was absolutely perfect running weather out tonight, right around 60 degrees. But aside from the running I’d prefer it warmer and more humid. I’m getting tired of low humidities, high winds, little rain (I like rain, especially thunderstorms) . . . also chaps the lips and makes skin dry, although I have to say it’s certainly better for my hair . . . wow, the hair will be rockin’ this summer with the humidity, perhaps I should just go with the Irish-fro? But no, seriously, the longer it gets, the more "normal" it seems to behave . . . the more it "hangs" instead of "puffs out". I guess that was just the awkward stage. I’m passed that now.

Also, while on the subject of my hair . . . you remember me talking about certain "milestones" with the long hair? One important one is being able to tie it back. That used to be such a superhuman feat for me . . . it just never would all fit, and I had put off the "ponytail" look for absolutely the longest time because of it. But I’ve finally been going with the pony tail at work. It’s actually quite easy to tie now. I’m not sure it looks all that neat, but who cares, it’s practical to tie it back and I’m a guy, so I don’t have to look pretty, LOL. I’m not too worried about frizziness, that’s just my hair type . . . the frizziness isn’t so bad that the hair won’t stay in the tie . . . in fact I can tie it once and it will hold for hours so long as I’m not in the wind or heavily working out. It makes life easier to tie it. Hair in my face at work is absolutely the most annoying thing, and it gets in the face when I move around to lift freight, bin, bend over to grab stuff, etc. Hell, all I have to do is look DOWN and hair is all in my face. So tying works absolutely 100%, it’s great! Don’t have to think about it or worry about it. In fact, the only thing I DO worry about is how neat the hair looks in the back, specifically the hairline below the pony tail. Perhaps I need to shave back there, or do something, I don’t know.

So, back to my point . . . I passed the "tying" milestone quite some time ago, but it has since become very comfortable to do. I read somewhere that getting hair in your mouth was another milestone, LOL! Not sure about that one. I know one thing, that is annoying as hell, and one more good reason to tie it. I’ve kept my face clean shaven, and I like the look better. The beard AND long hair was too much. It made me look old. I like being clean shaven now, people say I look younger. Finally, another big milestone is when your hair is so long that you are mistaken for a chick! That happened to me for the very first time about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I was bending over in front of the camera cases behind our desk at work and a guy said to me (from behind), "excuse me, ma’am, uh, sir, sorry!" AND, the same exact same thing happened to me today (so it’s the second time), this time with an older lady, and all she could see is my pony tail. I guess I should consider it flattering that they think my hair is nice enough to be a chick’s hair, because too many times I find myself thinking it’s too frizzy, or too dry, too grey (in spots), too damaged (although I don’t really know what hair damage looks like). That’s the way it goes. When you’re a guy with long hair, you can expect this, I guess. It’s alright. I don’t look like a chick, as soon as I turn around and they see I have no tits and a mannish face, they know I’m a guy. It’s all good. Ha.

I was going to post more spring pics, as the dogwoods and azaleas are in full bloom, and things are getting a little greener every day. But, I got off talking about my hair. If I added pics now, this entry would be way too long.

Good run.

PS:  I have been tying the hair back to run for quite some time now, but being unafraid to go out in public with it tied is a new thing for me.  I’m doing it almost every day now.
