Viva la BAM!

Mmmmmmm… 3 kids today… Hopefully we don’t all get cabin fever…

I have the fire on, it’s warm and snowing like mad outside. The only thing that makes it OK is the fact that it hasn’t happened all that often so it’s still novelty-ish  for us. I like snow when it’s packed all neatly on a hill so I can have some fun, not so mucch when I walk down my path and sink into it knee deep. Thanks very much but I’ll pass. This snow storm was well anticipated. Amidst all the blue skies and sunny days (albeit mild temperature wise), Mr Weather man has been reiterating the storm for about 10 days now. Usually the snow here is soft and powdery and light and dry. That’s what makes Colorado the shizz for winter sports. Yesterday it was heavy and wet and as soon as it hit land it melted into great biggggg puddle. Now, this isn’t such a bad thing unless you have a day like today following a day like yesterday. Because all those gorgeous puddles of wet, heavy snow that turned into puddles of water are now great, big patches of slick, dangerous black ice. It means that driving (as if it weren’t hard enough anyway) suddenly turns into a negotiation with Mother Nature and God (to get you home safely). It’s pretty common to see cars sliding gracefully along the back roads (usually the ones that aren’t cleared by the snow ploughs and covered in dirty sand and salt) and lots and lots of accidents. I HATE driving in snow (and it took me about 45 minutes to clear the thick chuinks of ice off my windcreen before leaving) so this weather just isn’t my shiizz.

The next problem being that we’re leaving for NY on Wednesday. Not sure if this weather continues (which isn’t the "norm" for Colo Springs) whether our plane will take-off on Wednesday morning. That posssibility scares me because we have no choice but to be there on Thursday morning. Waiting? Not an option!!! To add to the joy, the East Coast has apparently been hit pretty hard with this weather so I don’t know that planning a nice stroll in Time Square is on the cards. I’ve done NY on a cold winters day and I always said I’d say "No Thanks" next time. *shudders*

31 on Wedneday. Old Fart. I thought turning 30 scared me. I am frikking dying. I think it’s because I wasn’t so bothered in my twenties… but it’s my thirties. I feeeeeeel young, I look young but my age is creeping and it makes me feel like the whole picture doesn’t fit. I have a 5 foot "something" pre-teen who looks about 15 and I think the whole realisation process is hitting home hard. Whew.

Speaking of NY… My "babysitters" (neighbours) just called from California and told me they need to stay an extra night because someone is having surgery. Bloody hell… Gotta find someone else to help me with the kids that night too. This is far far farrrrrr from relaxing. Try finding willing babysitters in this town when you know no one!!!

Better crack on, the house is a mess… BUT I did lose 4 lbs this week. Now THAT’s something!!!

congrats on the weight loss! All that snow sounds like quite a challenge. I’m so spoiled here in Cali, we never get it like that where I live.

i’m sure NY will be great. That’s awesome with the weight loss. I was going to suggest that if by helping you, making you accountable to me would help then I’d be all for it. But my biggest suggestion with food is-simply don’t buy it. When you go shopping don’t go on an empty tummy and don’t buy junky stuff. And with comfort eating try not eating when it happens, or only letting yourself just

have carrot and celery sticks, something like that…and see what happens. What happens to those emotions? Just sit and feel them. (This is behaviour and response prevention btw-you stop allowing yourself the normal response and start to see that it’s actually ok, you won’t die if you don’t eat that *insert food/s*…). My other big tip with your meals is to serve yourself a bit less. I know you

February 8, 2010

say you had to eat everything on your plate growing up. So now, put less on your plate. And eat SLOWLY. Eating slowly allows you to better feel when you’re full. Another trick is to have a big drink of water just before you sit down to dinner, you’ll naturally not be able to fit as much in. With exercise, just do it. You know you’ll feel better for it. So just go for it!!!! You’ll eventually get

to that place where exercise is itself the motivator, you won’t have to push yourself, you’ll be driven to go!!! Good luck!!!!

Hopefully the plane leaves when it is meant to leave. I keep waiting for it to snow a LOT here. It got up to my ankles once. I want, just once, lovely thick snow that almost traps me home.

wooooohooooo… Ottawa is NOT getting the big snow that has been belting the States around…. snow is melting everywhere – its like Spring has Sprung

Congrats on those 4 lbs! I hope you made the flight to New York and that you travel safe! Ashley

Wow. I hope you made it to NY. The weather here was really bad yesterday. I imagine most flights must have gotten cancelled. We literally had horizontal snow on Long Island last night. It totally coated the north side of every tree and house in my town. Weird.

The way it snows here is one of the things I love about Colorado. You get the beautiful white blankets now and then but they never last more then a couple days and it’s back to mild temps but gorgous sunny days. It’s like the best of both worlds… no opportunity to get too depressed like people in the midwest and east coast who get snow in the late fall and it stays until mid spring. I’ll takethe fact that you haven’t updated on facslut as a good sign you made it to New York! I really hope things go well the way you want (and they should!) them to go.

RYN: I would luv luv luv too. And if i’m still in Sydney, i’ll be there with gay bells on. I’ve got early plans to move down to melbourne where most of my friends are (jay hated the place so i was stuck here – now that he isn’t W00T!)… So yeah, if i’m still here, its a date!
