Fuzzy pirates and application deadlines

Dyrim’s surgery was yesterday, and we got him back today.  And by "we got him back today" I mean to say that Bryan picked him up at nine o’clock and I’ve been receiving text messages as to his status all day.  Apparently he looks really gross and is kinda groggy, but more or less his li’l kitten self.  Max has been keen on staying updated, not so much because he actually cares about the cat, but he knows it’s important to me, and so he’s showing a huge interest.  He also thinks "cyclops" is a lot more apt than "pirate."  It’s a running debate.

I’ve learned a lot about who my friends are through this whole incident.  That is to say, I’ve learned that Max will continue to be there no matter what, and it’s worth leaving Natalie to her vampiric ways.  I’ve been there so much for her over the last year, and the one time I was truly upset about something she totally ignored it and continued to rant about how bad her day was.

Some of the schools to which I am applying have horrendously early application deadlines.  The worst, of course, being today.  Yes, I slacked a bit writing my Statement of Purpose, but I got it in today no problem.  And after hounding Roger for a week, he finally got his letter of recommendation in at 2:20 today.  Hopefully the University of Washington is nicer in their deadlines than they sound.  They did say "December 15th" as the deadline, but also "that’s the day we start looking at them, so get them in before that."  Hopefully there aren’t too many ultra anal-retentive people on the admissions board.

The MIT application, of course, being the really important one.  They were very clear about their deadline.  December the 15th before 23:59:59 EST.  Thank you, MIT, for your very specific instructions.  I don’t have to worry if I’ll be disqualified based on when I completed the application!

My work is such a strange tediously normal place.  There are all of these higher-ups that keep deciding what I’ll be doing next, and it kind of feels like being that doll that two girls are tugging back and forth.  So long as no-one orders me cut in half so that they might better share.  I really wish some of these bureau directors had a better sense of what it is that I actually do in my job, though.  It’s very difficult to be bossed around by someone who has no clue what they’re talking about.

My mother’s birthday is today, and Bryan and I will be going over to their house to celebrate.  I’ve purchased the latest Paul Simon CD for her, and I hope she likes it.  The CD was hailed as "Paul Simon’s best since Graceland," and I’d say that I have to agree.  It’s very different, though.  Graceland was laced with African influence, heavy drums and singing, where So Beautiful sounds so much more like a bluegrass compilation.  Both clearly Simon, but very versatile and unique.

Did you know that Paul Simon turned 70 in October?  And he just put out a new album.  Ri-diculous.

I don’t mind linear if the story is really good, (i.e. Dragon Age II). In fact, I prefer it to games like Skyrim. I don’t have the same emotional involvement with my character(s).

Thanks! And I also just submitted a grad school application with a December 15th deadline. It was hell. Actually, I found a lot of schools with December 1st deadlines, but that wasn’t going to happen.
