Integration nightmares

How do you feel about tedious integration?  If you’re anything like me, it probably bugs the shit out of you.  If you’re not like me, it probably bugs the shit out of you, too.  I have yet to meet someone who enjoys tedious integration.

The one redeeming feature of tedious integration :  I’m damned good at it.

I bring this up for two reasons.  The first is that my partial differential equations class is really nothing but tedious integration.  We had a test last Thursday, and I finished in 17 minutes (the first in the class).  On Tuesday, we got our exams back.  The professor handed mine to me and announced to the entire class, "Adelaide got a perfect score in only 17 minutes."  Um, wow.  I didn’t expect a perfect score, but okay!  I’m sure that made me really popular with the whole class.  One half probably hates me and the other half wants to get into my pants.  Or so I would like to imagine.  I have an ego about these things.

The second reason is that I’ve been studying Calc II stuff a lot lately.  Calc II is also a lot of tedious integration, but it’s a bit less hard and a bit less tedious.  But I have to do it more.  I don’t think I’ve mentioned it in this diary, but I actually, aherm, skipped Calc II and went straight into Calc III because I figured HL maths would cover Calc II.  I actually kind of knew that it wouldn’t do that, but I’ll be damned if I have to take Calc II.  (We really did cover everything in Calc II in HL math, it just doesn’t count for college credit, grr…).  So I’m reviewing infinite series and all of that jazz so that I can challenge Calc II and not actually have to take it.  This is not a big deal, it just greatly increases the amounts of tedious integration that I have to do lately.

My third comment regarding tedious integration (I lied, there were three, not two) has to do with a dream I had two nights ago.  Brian had pinned me down on my bed, and was making me do really really hard integrations without the benefit of paper or pencil or anything.  He wouldn’t let me up until I had solved as many integrals as he wanted me to solve.  He kept shouting at me and getting really mad that I couldn’t do these integrals (who wants to integrate x^5*cos(x^3)dx in their head, anyway) and started making me cry.  I think I must’ve made whimpering noises or something, because the real Bryan woke me up by snuggling me closer.  I like it when he sleeps over.  🙂  It’s pretty hard on our dorm-size beds, but we make it work sometimes.  Real Bryan is tons nicer than NastyIntegralBryan.

I have not much news, lately.

Lent has started, and I am not so pleased, actually.  I have given up teasing people (it will be really really hard, and I know it, but I’ll be a much better person for it) and I will moderate my dessert consumption quite a lot.  I just wish it would start in about a week or so…  I don’t have a lot of willpower right now and I’m pretty low on energy.  Blaaah.  I really don’t have any right to complain, though.  I observe Lent because I think it’s a really good idea that helps with self-control and appreciation of those things that we take for granted.  So, not being a Catholic and observing Lent–  this is my own choice and I really really really can’t complain.

Poop.

I’m pretty fond of OD 6.0 so far.  I really like that the spell check actually works (I always feel dumb when I misspell words) and I really really really like that it autosaves drafts on the OD server.  My dorms internet will disconnect if nothing is sent back or forth to it for a certain period of time (depending on how many people are using the internet).  Basically writing an entry will always be long enough to disconnect my internet, and I have to remember to open a different window and authenticate a session before submitting anything.  It’s a great way to lose entries.  So, having had this happen quite a lot, I am very happy with this feature.  I will definitely be able to breathe more easily.

I miss chocolate already.  🙁

After perusing a copy of this month’s National Geographic, I came across a lot of random facts regarding blue whales.  Did you know that an elephant can fit on a blue whale’s tongue?  And a new-born blue whale gains 9 pounds an hour?  That’s 200 pounds a day!  This fucking whale grows a Brian each day!  Jesus!

So, anyway, whales are neat.

I really need to clean my room.  It is SO cluttered and unhappy and my floor really needs to be vacuumed.  I’ve been so lazy lately.  Maybe I’ll go do that– a clean work environment typically makes me a lot more productive.

I’m declaring it Springtime in Utah.  All of the birds are singing EVERYWHERE, there is no snow to be seen, and it just smells so… fresh and springy.  I shaved my legs this morning in anticipation of wearing skirts.  I’ll probably have to do that once or twice more before I’m actually hairless enough to wear a skirt.

Kitschy poem:
Spring is sprung,
The grass is ris,
I wonder where the flowers is!

Did you know that spring is the one word in the English language with the most denotations?  Exciting!

^ Yeah, that can bother people sometimes. I promise it’s mostly only when I talk about math, though, and I don’t do that a whole lot. Sorry if I offended anyone!
