Meat cake

A little while ago i was sent an email outlining the reasons that many Americans are obese..

It was mainly a photo spread of fast food place foods all super sized or added together .. I can not recall much (maybe you have seen it ) .. but lets imagine .. super cheese nachos with hotdogs and chips all in the same bowl .. umm All meat pizza with double cheese , frankfurters and fries all covered in sauce and cheese .. you get the idea ..

well one of the pics was of a meat cake ..I actually thought of all the foods .. this was quite cool looking .. and knew .. knew knew knew TOH would LOVE it !!!

 
Well after a few months of the pic being on the computer I decided to tell TOH and ask if he would like me to try making it .. and I had an idea of how I could do it .. different to the pic above .,
So … I made a meatloaf mixture .. and in 2 round cake tins I made 4 big meatloaf patties ..
I caramelised 5 onions (thank you Aussie Powers) .. cooked some mushrooms in a little butter and then thickend them.. mashed a HUGE pot of potatoes and then set about assembling my version of the meat cake..
 
Layers of meat, onions, sauce and mustard, potato, meat, mushrooms, onions,potatos etc ..
then topped with mashed potato and I tried to "ice " it with potato but that failed miserably .. so topped it with a little grated cheese .. back in the oven till it melted and browned and then served it with Salad and steamed cauliflower and broccoli.
It was a hit …
I forgot to take a pic of it whole.. so here is my plate.. and my slice of cake
 

maybe 2 layers next time for me .. four was way too many to eat ..lol
and when I make it again .. oh yes I HAVE to. I will use bamboo skewers to hold it together .. so that each slice of cake is held with a skewer .. 10 maybe .. and then while it is held together .. I can pipe potato"icing" around it .. hmmm . it was Yummo!!
We invited 2 couples over to help us and had chicken and chips and salad for the kids and the vegos.. but the kids had a try too.
I can see that being added to the birthday dinner menu that the kids get to choose their fav dish from.
 
so another nice weekend with friends over …
Back to work tomorrow and back to routine .. school holidays are over and I have the school kids come back into care in the morning ..
Better head to bed and get a good nights rest.
