The cat that would be dog. (revised)
I’m writing this in Braggadoccio font…seems appropriate.
I have a cat that we named Icarus. It was during our greek period. First, there was Socrates, then we had Homer show up and finally Icarus. Oh and for a brief period, we had a blind and deaf siamese live out her final days with us of which we named Helena.
When I arrive home from work (or anywhere else) as I’m nearing the house, I see my baby running to the front to greet me as I get out. I would think that he was just anxious to get inside except that he doesn’t always go in or sometimes goes in only to go right back out. No, he’s just happy to see me. Sure, he doesn’t jump on me and wag his tail, but he’s still welcoming me back home.
Whenever I’m at home and a portion of my body is horizontal, Iccy (pronounced icky) thinks that it is there to support him and his wagging tail while I pet him. He used to think that my horizontal body was his bed at night too, but he’s gotten tired of my tossing and turning at night and has decided that maybe he’ll just stick to lying near me.
For those of you who don’t know, in Greek mythology Icarus was the son of Daedalus. Minos had imprisoned Daedalus and Icarus in a Labyrinth. Daedalus constructed wings of wax and feather so that he and his son could escape Crete by flying. Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly to high to the son or the wax would melt and he would plummet to his death. Unfortunately, Icarus was soo excited with the thrill of flying that he flew too high and fell to the sea where he drowned.
Although we didn’t know it at the time, we seemed to have appropriately named him. When he was much younger, our Icarus would climb our trees in the hunt for birds and then jump onto the roof of our 30 ft. high home and be stuck. The poor guy, we’d come home and there he’d be meowing (which is something he seldom does) loudly. I don’t have a 30 foot ladder so we’d have to hang out a window and attempt to grab him. The poor thing had been stuck up there a number of times.
Once, after my eldest son left (who was the only one with long enough arms to reach the cat on the roof) I tried sticking a piece of wood out the window near the roof to get him to climb down it and into the house. The first time it worked, but the next time, he slid off and fell the 30 feet. You’d think that would have taught him not to get on the roof, but the guy was back up there again in a few weeks. I think he’d just get so excited about those birds that he’d forget all about not being able to get back into the tree…lol
I was going to post a picture of him up here, but I can’t find it. I’ll try to get a picture of him and post it later.
As far as how I’m doing. I’ve been depressed and busy lately and haven’t had the time to, or if I did, didn’t feel like writing. Not to mention, this pop ups are driving me crazy. I’ve thought about purchasing a membership, but I so seldom write, that I haven’t been ablt to convince myself to spend the money.
BTW, thanks for the notes! (Didn’t see some of them until today when I signed in…lol)
(revised) Here’s a pic. Not the best one, but the guy didn’t want to pose for me.
I love Icarus. 🙂 ~

Icarus is cool — and like most of us, doesn’t plan ahead too well.

The Greek phase didn’t end, I just moved out. LOL. Don’t forget Skia, Delphie, and the Radio…hmmm, guess that one doesn’t fit. Maybe it did end. I think I’m going Hebrew after this. LOL. lj
