Spring Fever (or the best laid plans)
This week is spring break for my kids and in celebration I decided to take the week off and do some spring cleaning. I realize this is NOT what my sons wanted to do, but I had intended to see their grandpa later in the week after getting much of the spring cleaning done and to go to their cousins this weekend ….
That was until my youngest son decided Friday night (after the doctor’s left) would be a good day to have a 104.4 degree temp . It went down to 102 on Saturday but I called the doc anyway hoping he’d be in on a Saturday. Of course he wasn’t and the doc on call advised me to give him tylenol and if his temp went back up to 103 or 104 to take him to the hospital.
Sunday his temp was back up to 104 but I considered not taking him because it was probably just the flu and nothing we could do….but then someone mentioned pneumonia…so I took him….
To make a short story long, he has mono. All the planning I had of going places are now on the back burner. Course, I’m sure he’s more disappointed than I am, after all, what a lousy way to spend your spring break. His temp keeps climbin to 104 and his tonsils are all gross along with the mono. The poor baby!!! (Especially since it’s supposed to be up in the 70’s much of the week!)
The rest of us can still do the spring cleaning, of course, and we may still have a weiny roast later in the week that the youngest can enjoy as long as he doesn’t get too roudy.
On the work front, the new company considering buying my department out sounds like it might not be too bad to work for. Much of the extra work I’ve been doing will be given to the home office and I’ll just be doing what I was originally hired to do. It’s not guarenteed that I’ll be hired should they buy us out. My director kept saying that they’d hire me, but fortunately, the rest of us were smart enough to know that unless he put it in the sales contract, he couldn’t guarentee that. If I am hired, I get a much better retirement plan (one they actually pay into) and a raise. I don’t get as much vacation / sick leave, but I guess I can live with that…maybe. I will also be given the option to transfer the vacation time I’ve earned with my current employer to the new one OR I can get a nice check for vacation time earned. Wonder if they’ll let me do a little of both .
You know, the toughest part of writing in here is wrapping everything up in a nice way. I always feel the house calling me to get back to it and yet, I hate to just leave….but the house is winning.
Hope you get to enjoy your spring!!!
That’s a bummer — but even more so for your son. I hope he is doing better now.
