Time is flying
I can’t believe how long it’s been since I’ve last written. In the mean time, the 4th of July has passed by, I’ve met with my old friend Bryan and his family, Emily has stopped working at the Science Center again, I’ve sailed with Erick and Tom, and I’ve come down to my last two days of work. Hard to believe.
So what’s really been going on lately? I’ve started yoga again. That’s a real positive. I’ve wanted to get into it again for a while, especially after I started having minor bach aches and pain in my ankles. Yoga is really good a dealing with that stuff, strengthening your body, and just generally de-stressing. So, at the beginning of July I popped into Charm City Yoga down the street to check out their hours. A few days later, I signed up for a trial month (mat + month membership was about $45, I think). So far I’ve gone three times and I’ve been wonderful.
Tonight was a little different than the last two times, though. I went to a beginner lesson, but this particular teacher made it a little more challenging than usual. The positions were more challenging (exacerbated by the fact that I also went two days ago, on Sunday), her pace was quicker, and she was a bit more intense. Her style of speaking was less soothing, more commanding. The meditation at the end was really cool, though.
She turned the lights low incrementally as the class came to an end so that they were completely out by the time we were lying down. She also shut off the fan and the music so that the room was completely quiet. All you could hear was the sound of our breathing and the ambient noise coming in from outside. In the dark, sitting in silence, I was really zenned out, thinking about my place in the universe, my motivation, and my successes and failures as a person.
So of course I came home achy and tired, ate pizza, drank wine, and played video games. Whew, I need better self control!
