Music, and memories

Spring has been a good time for music. Pandora has been playing the Royksopp station on and off for me, I borrowed a collection of REM’s hits from the library, and I went to some live events.

One night, Erick, Ally, and I went to the Ottobar to see Rasputina. Erick was the one to get me into Rasputina to begin with, so it’s no surprise that he wanted to go to the show. The place wasn’t super crowded, but there were a lot of hipsters and art student types. The first two bands were ok – the second guy played a kazoo on stage but I missed it while I was upstairs looking at some artwork – but Rasputina was alot of fun.

The lead singer and cellist is really weird. She was wearing a white dress and saying all sorts of strange things in between songs. She asked us what’s ‘popular’ these days, and someone shouted pokemon. Go figure! So she started dedicating this song to pokemon.

A couple weeks later, I went to Sidebar downtown with Rebekah, Scott, Vanessa and crew for Rebekah’s birthday. We had a pretty good time and the band’s were awesome (Silent Old Mtns was one of them – friends with Vanessa), but I was driving people down from Scott’s place so I didn’t have anything to drink. I felt guilty, but I didn’t end up taking them home because they wanted to stay out late and do karaoke and I had to work the next morning. Luckily, Vanessa was able to drive people back instead.

The third thing was the PowWow music festival down by the water in southern Baltimore, just behind a Wallmart near the garbage burning facility. It was full of hippies, people smoking weed, makers, and other counter culture types. Allie and Erick invited me and their friend McKenzie came along as well. She was really cute, dancing and swaying the whole time with the music, but kind of a ditz too.

The music there was a lot of fun, especially Freedom Enterprise, and the atmosphere was great. There was a huge bonfire and we got to watch the sun set over the water and the bridge leading out of Baltimore.

Anyway, pardon the language. I’ve taken some painkillers because I had a root canal worked on yesterday and I’m trying to catch up on a little old news here. I’ll write more later!
