Getting the News

Ok, you’ve waited long enough.

So you all know about the job interview I had with a state agency in Wichita back in February.  (If you don’t, go here: http://www.opendiary.com/entryview.asp?authorcode=A200565&entry=10201&mode=)

Anyway, a couple of weeks went by.  I was starting to think about my last day on the job, which was about three weeks away still.  I got a phone call.  It was the same agency calling to request an interview for another position I had applied for.  At first I thought it was a mistake.  They wanted me to be there in a week.  Unfortunately, since I had just flown, and was down to my last three weeks of employment, getting back so soon was going to be hard to pull off.

My supervisor told me that phone interviews were becoming more common and that I should ask for one.

I did, and they accepted.  A week later, I sat in the conference room at work, interviewing for a new job.

A week later, I got a voicemail from the lady that interviewed me.  I called her back the next day and she offered me the position.  I accepted immediately.  I told her I wanted to give my employer two weeks notice, and I was scheduled to start working on March 15–one week before my scheduled last day on the job.

I was excited…but I kept the news to myself for the moment.  Things had just gotten very difficult…
