Movies MOVIES MOVIES!!!

Well, there’s a whole heck of a lot to talk about I guess.

I was at home for Spring Break, saw Jessica and Rachel and saw a bunch of movies, but overall it was boring. Then my parents accused me of stealing money from them for some stupid reason…my Mom misplaced some money and they thought I took it…even after I showed them that I didn’t have any money…..Anyway…enough of that.

Here are some movie reviews first:

THE HUNTED: 1 of 5

I wanted to love this movie. Benicio Del Toro and Tommy Lee both acted well and gave, what I thought were, excellent performances. The camera shots were seamless and the story was intriguing. The fight scenes were clean, unique, and excessively brutal which I always like. The problem with the movie is it has no plot. None. We are introduced to characters and given a great setup for what appears to be a mystery or a thriller and then all we get is an ending that leaves us with like 80 million questions that SHOULD have been answered. We don’t know who the good guy was, who the bad guy was, or why anybody did what they did. We don’t know why Tommy chases after Benicio or why Benicio is being setup (if he even is, we’re not even sure of that)

The woman in the movie has like six lines and that’s depressing, especially since its the woman who played in Gladiator and who can deliver a good performance. She just had barely a roll in the entire thing. It was annoying. Anyway….there’s my review of that movie.

BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE: 4 of 5

This movie was the kind that you’ll smile through the entirety of it but it won’t make you laugh really hard…I think. That’s the way I was. I laughed my ass off during Old School, but this movie was just a bit more sedated. Even Steve Martin’s zany antics weren’t all that hilarious.

The real humorous character was Eugene Levy, who really steals the show in every scene he is in. All the characters did a great job acting-wise, however, and I really thought the cast was well-picked. Queen Latifah delivers a great performance with a few moments where she tried to be funny a bit too hard, but I won’t fault her for that.

There are a couple shining gem moments in the movie, like when Steve Martin goes into the ghetto and tries to act like he’s black…that was damn funny. That and there’s a scene with Queen Latifah and another girl and let’s just say the Matrix could take a few pointers from the cat-fight that followed…..ha.

It was worth a matinee ticket, but not one I would see twice until it came out on video. But then again, Steve Martin is timeless and classic….how can anyone pass up seeing him shine?

DREAMCATCHER: 5 of 5

Now I had wanted to see this and even tried to see it two times, both times were squashed but that was all right. Then I arrived back at college and ignored the Academy Awards after Michael Moore’s stupid and mannerless speech which was an abuse of the privilege of freedom of speech (I’m glad he got booed.)

Instead, I went to see Dreamcatcher and let me tell you it was worth every single freakin’ penny! Firstly, the Final Flight of the Osiris, the Matrix short before it was incredibly disappointing, as all it was was two computer animated people who we really didn’t care enough about getting intimate during a swordfight. The only cool part is when they all started dying…hahaha…

Anyway…onto the actual movie. Dreamcatcher was what I thought it was about for the most part, although the main characters were not who I expected….which was really cool. In fact, the entire movie was so fascinating I found myself not paying attention to the crispness of the camera or the brilliance of the acting, but rather just watched the plot unfold, because it was so damn good.

There were a couple moments of ‘dohs’ where I could not believe a character would be so stupid, though their moments of digression from their intelligence were pawned off as weaknesses to a vice of theirs. Another problem I had with the movie was not the movie itself but Stephen King’s cruelty towards a couple of the characters….I’m not going to say who, but once you see the movie think about how unfair the character balance between the main four was. I mean…if the premise is true, then Duditts doesn’t do a very good job. (You’ll understand when you see the movie.)

The cast is tremendous. Thomas Jane, an underappreciated actor gives a brilliant and believable performance….a spectacular one in fact and it was just….I loved him. Damian Lewis, who I’ve never seen before was just as brilliant and did a fantastic job and makes me want to watch all the movies he’s ever been in. His performance was also incredibly believable and pulled me into the movie. Kudos to Morgan Freeman, who has played just about every character that could be thought of….he found a new one. He is so subtely psychotic and scary that it is really freakin’ awesome. He’s great in the movie. Tom Sizemore is too normal of a character to be all that interesting, though I have to say that near the end I was like what!? You’re using an MP5 Navy to try and shoot down a helicopter?! (It doesn’t spoil the movie, trust me.) Anyone who knows knows that an MP5 Navy is a submachine gun that is inaccurate at very long distances. Finally, Donnie Wahlberg, who isn’t in much of movie is just fantastic too…..a really unique character.

Go see it. Twice.

Let’s see…..working on shows and writing..that’s all. I had more to talk about…like the war, but I’m going to lay off because I’m tired and not sure if this will go through.
