Chapter XLII: Cion Sky (Cont. IV)

And then a burst of energy flashed out from each of their weapons and wrapped around Baen, the Watcher struggling to keep himself on his feet as the floor began to give away to reveal a great cavern filled with magma and sand. Flames surged up as the rubble of the false Cion Sky tumbled down into the lava with great splashes, hurling the raging flames all over. Adelia watched in awe as Baen struggled against the twelve watchers, it was a feat that even she did not expect Baen to be capable of. Baen’s eyes rose to Adelia, the blood in them sparking with fire as he began to slip down into the hole.

“What is happening?” Adelia screamed, trying to be heard above the sudden screams of anger from Baen, the chants of the watchers, and the roaring winds of the great magic throughout the room.

Creator glanced her way, “Baen is being banished forever…….”

Baen screamed again, swiping his blade with anger and striking one of the bolts of magic away and sending one of the watchers reeling backwards. “You think you can have HER replace me?! HAHA!” Baen lunged against the magic, pulling the Watchers with him. His hand struggled free of the restraining chains of lightning, light, fire, ice, and shadow, grabbing hold of Adelia’s arm and pulling her backwards as he slipped down into the caverns.

Adelia screamed, the magic rippling over her and overpowering her senses. She watched herself plummet towards the lava, spiralling around and around within Baen’s grip. She could hear the angered screams of the Watchers as the floor sealed itself once more, and then all was black.

On the very edge of the various planes, light began to ripple and flow. Where grass sat, it began to wilt, grow, then wilt again. Slowly, as the few creatures near the edges of the lands witnessed, the strange light began to slowly draw closer, and though they could see beyond the light….there was nothing there to see anymore, except absolute nothingness.

“Got another one of those explosives for these bastard doors?” West glanced up and down them with interest, as he watched Thyrus examine the doors carefully. The scientist/wizard continued to inspect the doors for some time then marched back a few steps. Behind them, the tunnel continued to cave-in on itself, sealing up the entire escape route and drawing ever closer to the group. Far above, several of the skylights shattered, raining small bits of glass all around the group as Thyrus continued to examine the doors.

“No, but never fear. Judging by my calculations, this should do it.” He drew out his forcepike with great speed and fired the pike. The item crashed into the door, splintering several of the boards, but not budging them whatsoever. The group stared at Thyrus for a moment, then back at the looming death sentence. “Well, that’s odd.” Thyrus marched back towards the door and continued to examine it.

“Could you possibly hurry up?” Donovan glanced back at the rubble as it drew closer and closer, his eyes widening as the rubble drew very close.

“Calculations take time, Mr. Burore, was it?”

“Don’t say it like that,” Donovan said, shuddering.

“Why’s that?”

He exchanged a glance with Grail, “Reminds me of an old friend.”

“And to that point, where did you really come from? You never did explain how it is that you two knew about all this.” West loomed close towards Donovan, who took several steps back, stopping as he heard the thunder of the collapsing tunnel drawing near.

“Perhaps this isn’t the best time to be talking about this?” Blackheart glanced over his shoulder as the rubble began to draw closer.

“I think this is perfect,” West said, glaring down at Donovan.

“Judging by the weight distribution on the hinges….” Thyrus continued as another foot of the tunnel caved in.

Donovan took another step back and tripped over a pile of rubble, his head crashing down so that he could see the rubble slowly drawing near him. “We’re doomed!” He winced as there was the sudden crash of sound and then absolute silence. Death. He was dead.
