Milestone
Today is my 30th birthday. Although I’m not doing anything particularly special (no giant parties or anything), I have really been looking forward to it and am excited to be where I am in life. Somehow I feel that being 30 will help me to be more confident, like I’m officially a "grown-up" and can expect people to take me seriously. I guess most people take me seriously already, but it just feels different.
I called in sick to work yesterday…I generally have a pretty good work ethic, but yesterday morning I woke up and I just knew I couldn’t do it. I slept in and then got up and watched some bad television. When Ryan woke up (it was his day off, another reason to stay home), we decided we should take advantage of both being home during the day and catch a matinee movie. We went to see "Role Models"…kind of dumb, but entertaining. We really like Paul Rudd, and it was just a fun thing to be doing on a Wednesday afternoon. We ran by the grocery store and then headed home and relaxed for the evening. Made a good dinner and then headed to bed. We stayed up for awhile reading and watching tv. At midnight he gave me one of his presents, a couple of books.
This morning my mom surprised me by driving all the way up to my work and bringing me flowers and cupcakes. Mildly embarassing, but very sweet. A few of my co-workers also brought a small cake. One of my friends at work had a meeting this morning, and when she came back at lunchtime she brought me a milkshake. I am sugared out and I will probably have gained 5 pounds by tomorrow morning. This will certainly be true after Ryan and I go out to dinner tonight…we are going to the restaurant run by the local culinary school. It is delicious and fairly inexpensive AND you get a free entree on your birthday. =) Hopefully tomorrow we will be going out for drinks with a few friends to celebrate.
Poor Ryan did not know what to get me for my birthday (and I did not know what to tell him either!). With the wedding coming up, we are already getting so many nice gifts, and there’s just not much else I want or need. We have decided that if we get some extra money from the wedding (or doubles of gifts that we have to return), we are going to get a nice new television. Most of our "entertainment" time is spent watching television, and I’m tired of missing parts of the shows since everything seems to be shot in widescreen now. =) Also, I have decided that I am going to work on getting all the clutter in our house cleaned up, so that we can hire a cleaning service to come in for a one-time deep cleaning. We won’t be starting our married life in a new home, but wouldn’t it be nice to start it in a freshly cleaned one? We aren’t really dirty people, but I certainly don’t wash the windows or scrub the floorboords on a regular basis!
I wanted to post a couple of our engagement pictures, but I am at work and can’t get it to work here. Hopefully I’ll have time to do it later though.
Happy Birthday!! I just had my 30th Friday.
