family photos
I never write in this thing anymore, but tonight I’m so excited about something so lame, so I’m going to write about it instead of bothering anyone with it. =)
For awhile I have been badgering my Grandma about wanting to see old photos of her and my grandfather when they were young. Today I went over to her house to make pomegranate jelly (yummy! and a first for both of us!) and finally got around to pulling out the old pictures. There are some really fantastic pictures, although they aren’t all in the greatest shape. Anyway, I took a few of them and told her that I was going to try to get some copies made and then bring them back. Well, I headed straight to the kodak machine at the drugstore…I wasn’t sure how it would work, but I was anxious to do something with them tonight. I scanned and printed them in the machine, and they turned out beautiful! I just cannot believe how good they look. There were two pictures that I just loved….one is a picture of my grandma that my grandfather carried in his wallet during the war. She is perched on the side of a car in little shorts. It turned out awesome. Another one is a tiny picture from a photo booth that they took the first time my grandma had ever been to the ocean when she was 18. It is 70 years old. I was sure it would turn out blurry and faded when I blew it up, but it looks great! Not fuzzy at all. I had already bought some large black frames with white mats, so I have already framed them and am trying to figure out where to hang them. When I have time, I’m going to take some of her other pictures and have copies made, just so we can preserve them. Then I have to hit up my dad’s parents for their photos. =)
Anyway, I’m just excited. I tried this about 9 years ago with some photos of my mom’s but the quality wasn’t nearly as good…I guess photo technology has come a long way! If any of you have old photos like these, I highly recommend you give this a try!
Id be super psyched about that too. Thats awesome 🙂 Those photo machines are expensive sometimes. I did a photo collage type thing for my mom once using like copies and what not of like 30 pictures and it cost me over $60!

I would be excited too, its good that youre doing it now becasue I wish I could have thought about a million things to do with my grandparetns befroe they dead or got sick. You should make a scrap book and have your grandmother tell you all the old stories she can remember, I wish I would have found out things about my grandparents’ lives during the dperession and WWII…i never asked tho and nowits too late

ryn: the digital recorder is a great idea…my mom and i planned to do that and we planned and planned and never got around to doing it until it was too late. Kind of an historian you can guess how much this botheres me to have missed out on the opportunity to know all those stories. This way your children can know about your grandmother and their children as well

That’s great you are able to do that. I would love to do that. My aunt threw away all of my grandpas photos from when he was in the war and stuff. I’m still trying not to be upset with her. He had so many and it was a great record.

RYN: That’s a really good idea! I think I will do that but instead of writing it down and leaving it at home I think if I ever need it, I have it in my cell phone bill records, so its not completely lost, it will just be a HUGE effort to get it…eeeek….I think I’ll do that now… Thanks!!

RYN: Its a little difficult to call him out on something when I did something wrong. I used his computer to find out his passwords and so I can’t just tell him “yeah the other day while at home i used your password to check up on you by looking at your email and myspce and i found this….you suck!” cause in reality I suck too. Plus i dont want him to change his passwords…but don’t worry…i have a plan for this weekend…all will be taken care of….
