change a’coming

Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts. ~Arnold Bennett

So my regular readers know about the job situation but for new-comers I’ll fill in the blanks.  I work 2 jobs part-time; one at a retail store, the other is a pharmacy.  The pharmacy is the job I want to make a career of, either as a technician or as a pharmacist (dreams, dreams, wicked dreams!).  The store is the one I got when I couldn’t find anything after graduation.  Oddly enough I love my store job but dislike my pharmacy job.  It’s the people.  For both of them!  I love my store crew, but I more or less despise my pharmacy crew; it’s about 50/50 liking and disliking them.  Between the 2 jobs I get about 30 hours a week.  Sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less.

Today the pharmacy offered me full-time.  Well mostly full-time.  I don’t know that my actuall designation will change or not, I have to talk the specifics out with the store manager.  But it’s 30-35 hours a week between the pharmacy and the front-store at the pharmacy.  I’m excited about it because it means a definite $250/week as opposed to the $100 or less a week and the $200-$300 every 2 weeks from the store.  Plus if I do go up to full-time I get full-time benefits which would be AMAZING!!!  Health insurance again!  *fights the urge to happy dance*  But I have to talk to the store manager to find out for sure if I’d be considered full-time and if it means I’d be eligible for full-time benefit enrollment.  Oh I hope it does!  That would be amazing because I need to see the doctor for my 3 yearly check-ups (general, gyn, and eye) plus maybe being able to start seeing my chiropractor again.  *wistful sigh*

Unfortunately it means changing my availability with the store.  With the busiest retail season of the year about to start I don’t know how well they’re going to take the change.  I talked to the store manager briefly.  At first he thought I was giving my 2 weeks but I told him I genuinely hope it doesn’t come to that.  I’d still be available to work weekends and Black Friday.  My direct acting manager will likely be a little pissed that I’m changing my availability but I also put it in to change on the 26th so that’s 2 weeks notice of the change at least.  Plus they’re going to start hiring O/S part-timers soon, they’re already interviewing some of them.  I don’t want to leave the store.  I like the people, I (mostly) like the job, and I love the discount!  3 great reasons to stay if I can.  We’ll see in the next few days how that works out.

Xx
